Well I offered to do two commisions to raise money for the church... sold two for 140 dollars each. Most of the people in the church live in old houses like the first commision which I started and am only now done with... (Exhibit A)

the Second commission: Just my luck!!! Wonderful lady, drab house:

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Sep-2005/31024-P1060317.JPG

Lots of pictures of this house, but this was the best of a sorry lot.

You should know: Norma planted that birch tree when her daughter was born... so its gotta stay...

Lets see how we do .... and please... WE is the operative word. I will not pull this off without your help as you will soon see:

This is going to happen fast, I seem to have very little patience at times!

I masked the tree here. Arches 140#CP 1/4 sheet. Notice spatter on the board from Kev's August Classroom...

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Sep-2005/31024-wip_1.JPG

Sky is Cerulean.... very light, with a drop of FUB.

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Sep-2005/31024-wip_2.JPG

Pallette is for the most part: FUB, BS, Lemon Yellow, Cad Red, Yellow Ochre and some Sap Green and all of that W & N Artists Grade.. Later on I will use some bits of colour for the flowers, but thats about the bulk of it.

Brick is YO, FUB, very wet with a spritz of cad red.

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Sep-2005/31024-wip_3.JPG

Roof is BS, Cad red with a bit of FUB... it will dry lighter and I may go at it again.... we will see.

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Sep-2005/31024-wip_4.JPG

Driveway is a bit overpowering but I need all the colour I can get in this... thank goodness its not asphalt!!! It is BS and cad red. Windows are BS, FUB... mostly the blue.

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Sep-2005/31024-wip_5.JPG

Tree is lemon yellow, FUB for the most part... tiny bits of Sap green and some BS.

OK I have done a bit more and have a few more photos, but my photoshop went walkabout on me.... I am fixing it (ok my daughter is)... while she does that. I will keep going...

Going good, Banx! I'm glad ya played up the red drive...really adds to the painting. Looks like you can play red vs. green throughout the painting with the cool shadows adding some quiet notes...

Banx , Looking good . That Red tree showing a little right in the Ref would be a good addition for echo color.May be you could work it in?

Trying to paint my first birch tree here... FUB to round it off.

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/03-Sep-2005/31024-wip_7.JPG

This is where I am now. Darkened the roof, tossing about some colours for the flowers....

Still needs some excitement!

Shadows? Colours?

The birchtree is fabulous, so is the whole painting.
The house looks a lot friendlier on your painting than on the ref photo.

Ditto, ditto, and ditto to ^^^. You are really making this pretty plain little house look beautiful, Chris.

Your birch tree is very well done and that will make the owner happy since it has sentimental meaning for her.

Thanks for showing the progression, it is very interesting to see.

Wow! I never would have guessed that this painting came from your drab reference. It's so much more cheerful and full of light. Your first comission is great too. The homeowners must be delighted!

You get my merit point today!!!!

Just send Malty on over to Lyn Artmom's house to help her with her midden, he can help cheer on the Vol's in his orange outfit this weekend! :D

Malty does not do midden. I thought we cleared that up..
OK here I am now... between working, cutting lawn and closing the pool:

Added the red tree to the right...

Went at the sky again cos it was too bland.

added shadows on the roof, darker bits in the tree.

and attacked the cabbage... almost done.

I am not all that excited about it, but am thrilled I almost am done this one... its been an albatross.

Chris ,
Congrats on a job well done.
Before you run away , may I make another suggestion for you to think about, please ?
On the left where you have the bottom grasses and then a spit of grass above , in between my eye sails right out of the picture .
Maybe you could connect these perhaps with just a curve of Grass, even if it isn't really there? It would then close off that entrance out of the Picture
Take a look, see what you think.
Hope she loves it,
June

Wonderfull job! Looks like one of those renditions you see when a big architectural firm hires a top-notch artist to get a mediocre design past the local council and planning board. It just goes to prove, what is so often said, that one doesn't have to search endlessly for the perfect subject in order to produce a good work.

Hi....
This is really well done.
Chopping off the driveway did wonders.
But.......where is the shadow of that big birch tree......?
If it fell on the house and across the roof.....well...I know you know.;-)
Oops....I see it now.....guess I was on page 1

OK glad you found it Brian, I was beginning to wonder if it was not dark enough... thanks.

Kate: your caddy can call mine anytime, as long as she is not a union organizer... thank you

Char, Sylvia, Ian, Judy: you guys are too kind... but I am done with this and so that's a huge weight off... I think commishes are too much pressure... especially wehen its a house like this.

Gerri: thanks a ton.

JJ, Billy, Patty: Thanks for looking and commenting.
