Everybody's doing it!

Doing what? you ask.

Posting their self portrait in this thread:

Show us your self portrait! (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=289754)

Surely you've done one? Then please post it!

You haven't done one? Why not do one now?

Hope to see you there!

This is my first post after joining WETCANVAS. I live in Florida and prefer portrait painting to any other. I work mainly in acrylic, and do many portraits as a favor for friends who do me favors...y'know.

Studied painting/life painting with Deane Keller at Yale in the good ole days..with the Good Ole Blues..

I would like to say I am so impressed and inspired by what I have seen in this thread. Self portraits are always so fascinating!

I realized after I thought about it that I have done an embarrassing large number of self portraits over the years...not sure what this says about me. I guess I am the nearest subject matter to study! Also I went to art school, where they make you do one for almost every art class.

Anyway, after looking at all of these side by side I am amazed at how different they all are. It just goes to show how differently I have viewed myself at different moments.

Portrait #1 I did for a design class several years ago, based on a webcam photo.

#2 was for a drawing class, done in front of a mirror.

#3 for a painting class. I absolutely hate this one. I think physically it kind of looks like me, but I don't see any of myself in it, if that makes sense.

#4 is called "Split Self," and at the time I was thinking about what exactly the "self" is, and how you can show yourself and also be looking at pieces of yourself from many angles all at once.

#5 I really love... I did it this month. It is me with my husband when we were in Venice on our second honeymoon. Don't know if it counts as a self portrait since there's someone else in the picture...but I think I captured a true bit of myself there.

Thank you for letting me share these with you guys!

Here are 2 more. I don't remember when I did them but I found them both in my sketchbook. I think I look kind of angry in both, which makes sense because I sometimes use my sketchbook as an emotional outlet.

funny how you did a painting of being in a sleep study clinic, reuven - i was just in one last night, and that painting captures that trapped, bear-in-a-cage feeling that you get as they attach wire after wire to you and then you attempt to sleep - ironic really, how they expect you to sleep with so many nodules attached to your head. i found it impossible.

Hi. This is my first post. My only autoportrait was painted (oil on paper) in 1982 when I first started painting while working in Pakistan - I am actually from Singapore.I am also uploading a recent painting done in July 2005 in my homletown entitled Drowning City (acrylic on paper)

Given the tragedy of Katrina you can guess how upset I feel.

This is my first attempt after a long 'dry'' period of several years with no drawing. Its not perfect in a few areas and I may use it as a basis for a painting in watercolour or acrylics.

Here is a self portrait I did in school last year - the exercise was do a self portrait of yourself as someone else, this is me as Mme. Matisse. This is the first oil painting I ever did, also the first painting I ever had in a juried show.

Rockline, thank you very much! I don't often paint in this style but the mood just struck me! Reds and purples, or both, are the colours I always use to represent myself in my paintings.
