Do you have a photo which you think would make an interesting animal art project image?

If you would like to submit a photo for consideration for the animal art projects, please add it to this thread.

Guidelines for submitting a photo to the animal art projects:

The image should be a personal photo - no pictures from magazines, found on the internet etc. because of copyright restrictions.

Each month we'll have a vote to determine which will be the next project.

This is Hsing Hsing at the National Zoo in Washington DC.
My husband and I got up very early one Saturday morning and drove to DC so I could get pictures at the AM feeding.
Except for one other person we had the place to ourselves.
A sad note....Hsing Hsing had to be put to sleep last year :(

All of the above pictures were taken by me except this one, the 'kittens in a bucket' was taken by an old friend of mine who had a knack for photography. She is no longer for this world but I think it would be a wonderful tribute to her to see her work brought to life again in the artwork of the talented people here at Wet Canvas. These are Lil Carey's kittens......they are a couple of barn kittens that decided to play in an empty bucket.

OK, here are some animal photos from the Toronto Zoo. I took these with a Nikon and 80-200mm zoom. The eagle was difficult as there were branches in front of him. He was eating some sort of critter! I put 3 here incase you need some help with the details when working from one of them.

The minute the camera comes out Tinker poses too.

I think that the Humane Society does a wonderful job with the animals and some of the sweetest pets come from there.

Just thought all you animal lovers out there would appreciate a good laugh!

How Many Dogs Does It Take To Change A Light Bulb?

Golden Retriever
The sun is shining, the day is young, we've got our whole lives ahead of
us,
and you're inside worrying about a stupid burned out bulb?

Border Collie
Just one. And then I'll replace any wiring that's not up to code.

Dachshund
You know I can't reach that stupid lamp!
Rottweiler
Make me.

Lab
Oh, me, me!!!!! Pleeeeeeeeeze let me change the light bulb! Can I? Can?
Huh?
Huh? Huh? Can I?

German Shepherd
I'll change it as soon as I've led these people from the dark , checked
to
make sure I haven't missed any, and make just one more perimeter patrol
to
see that no one has tried to take advantage of the situation.

MalteseLet the Border Collie do it.
You can feed me while he's busy.

Jack Russell Terrier
I'll just pop it in while I'm bouncing off the walls and furniture.

Poodle
I'll just blow in the Border Collie's ear and he'll do it. By the time
he
finishes rewiring the house, my nails will be dry.

Cocker Spaniel
Why change it? I can still pee on the carpet in the dark.
Doberman
While it's dark, I'm going to sleep on the couch.

Boxer
Who cares? I can still play with my squeaky toys in the dark.

Chihuahua
Yo quiero Taco Bulb

Irish Wolfhound
Can somebody else do it? I've got this hangover.

Pointer
I see it, there it is. There it is, right there..

Greyhound
It isn't moving. Who cares?

Australian Shepherd
First, I'll put all the light bulbs in a little circle.

Old English Sheep Dog
Light bulb? I'm sorry, but I don't see a light bulb?

Hound Dog
ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz.z.z.z..z..z..z.

CAT
Dogs do not change light bulbs. People change light bulbs. So, the
question
is: How long will it be before I can expect light?
Noel:D

Trinidad looks a little like Tinker. Do you know what breeds are mixed? Tinker is part Catahoula, a Cajun type hunting dog with a long history going back to when the French invaded Louisana. The other part (her face) is terrier and she is also part Chow as she has the purple tongue and the soft undercoat.

Noelh - I don't know really what she is - the pound thought she was part blue-tick coonhound, she doesn't have a blue tongue, but I have this really great dog picture book (1 of many - I have quite the collection :D)and I think she's Gasconny Hound and Greyhound and maybe a little jackass :p - her proportions are funny her head is too small for her body and her legs are real thin and graceful looking but her mid-section is big - but I think she is gorgeous! We call her "the not so smart Beautiful Princess, but it's ok cuz you don't have to be smart to be a Beautiful Princess" - long name - huh? I wish WC had a "DOG smiley". Thanks for inquiring Noelh - I LOVE 2 talk about my dogs!!!!

Fern - when you made out your note did you go near the bottom where it says 'Attach file' click on the "Browse" button and go find it? If you did, your picture maybe too big, if you need to resize it the only way I know how to do it is in photoshop - do you have photoshop? I'm just telling you this 'cuz I want 2 c your puppies:D!

Fern
02-10-2003, 04:08 PM
Yes, I went through the attachment steps...perhaps it's too big. I'll resize and try again later. Thanks!

Do you have other pictures of Trinidad? I am really curious because the Catahoula was supposedly started when the French brought Bouviers de Flandres and greyhounds here to hunt and were trained to kill. When the French lost the battles the Indians captured the injured dogs and saved their lives. Through interbreeding with wolves, greyhounds and bouviers they produced the Catahoula. Long, long graceful legs, big body, very muscular and their heads are more square like the bouviers but they have short hair. Trinidad has definitely greyhound and the coloring of the Catahoula. Her nose is greyhound too. She is lovely no matter what she is!

Jamie,

She is so beautiful! I love her coloring. If I can find the book on Catahoulas I'll scan a picture of one so you can see a full blooded one and see their colors. Don't you just want to hug her all the time? Look at those eyes...how could you resist her anything?

Noel

P.S. Maybe KarenU will find this photo and do a pastel of her too, would that be great!

BTDogMom
02-25-2003, 03:59 PM
- That's the problem, I can't resist her anything that's why she's spoiled - (but NEVER rotten :D) And yeah that would be very cool if KarenU found her, but I'm not gonna ask, she has to be moved by the picture, like your baby's picture!

Gina, she's not a Great Dane, but a Cane Corso Mastiff. She was 6 weeks old in the pic and 17 lbs. She's 2 now. Smartest dog I've ever seen, and a lover. She's my mom's dog... in Arizona. Wes

I am looking forward to seeing the photo Wes. It's a bit of a co-incidence. My Dane 'Harley' was from Arizona, his owner bought him from a breeder and flew him to Alaska. They moved to Spain and brought Harley with them. He nearly died on the flight he was so nervous and was sick for weeks. When they wanted to go back to Alaska they could not take Harley... he would have died on the flight. So he became my dog and they visited him a couple of times and wrote at Christmas. He was a wonderful dog...I still miss him!

Sadly no I do not and I don't know their names either - they are on a farm about half a mile from my house - I pass them every day - there are about a dozen of them I think.

I really should try to speak to the owners but although their house is across the road from the field and I stopped my car there three times today I still didn't see a human to speak to.

Hi BTDogMom
thanks! Gigi loves to bask in the sun in the living room on winter mornings....she really soaks up the heat. She is a real character, keeps us in stitches. :)

This is such a fabulous thread, I hope it nevers stops. I go through all the pictures over again at least once a month. I wish I painted, because I'd love to do these animals.

I'ts nice to see the animals that are native to other countries too!

I don't know if i have done this right or not...But here is a photo of my Appy yearling I wanted to add to the image library.
He is standing on a slight hill that makes him look a bit lop sided.
But really he is not :)
We were having a lesson in being tied today so I took some pictures. (excuse the background please):D
It was love at first sight when I found this guy! His name is "The Little Outlaw",(he really is a big baby almost 15 hands now!) some days he lives up to his name!
