:) Hello:
Occassionally, I get to paint somewhere besides the train. Here is my current WIP-Passage. 9"x12" Arches 140 lb.
Thanks for viewing.

I like the colour of the walkway floor, and the sunny courtyard beyond. I was confused at first about the little hanging sign that is outlined in red. (I thought you had circled it to bring it to our attention! sorry!)

I am drawn by the shadowed walkway and the bright sunlit scene beyond. Are you going to make that area dominant?

Hi Brian,

I painted this same reference once too because I was intrigued by the dark shadows in the passageway leading to the bright-lit scene beyond.

You've got a good start, but right now the darkest dark is at the right side and the viewer's eye is drawn to it. If you make your shadows in the passage much deeper, it will make that area and the scene beyond it become more dominant.

 What wonderful and helpful comments. Thanks Jutta-it is still amazing to me that others like my work.

Thanks Patty. I was trying to add a little red but I think I might have overdone it:o I intend to add some dark washes to the foreground and the passage so the sign will hopefully recede a bit.

Sue-thank you. My plan is to try and draw the viewer's eye into the sunlit street beyond the passage. Hopefully I will get a chance to work on it this weekend.

Sylvia-thank you for the excellent advice. The reference photo was just irresistable. I cannot remember ever finding a peach colored wall.
Thank you
