View Full Version : A study - Shoes

Next spring I'm presenting a painting, and I'll probably also do some notecards, at a garden party to benefit breast cancer awareness in younger women. The theme for next year's party will be shoes. I pulled out a pair of shoes from the back of my closet given to me several years ago by a very fashionable lady. Here's a study I did in my watercolor pad. This is 10"x14". I think I'll do the final painting perhaps as a half sheet, 15"x22". I need your help on this, though. What about the composition? Ideas? What about the colors, especially the background. Please be free with your comments and critiques. Do you think this is worthwhile pursuing?

Andrea I really like this painting!!! Works for me..

Reminds me of a photo I took years ago of some shoes and beads, hang on I will see if I can find it..
Rats I have a badly scanned image of it, will have a look for the original.

Here is what i have, bad photo, if you want a better one to paint let me know..:)

Andrea, this works great! JJ has a good idea there, some beads or pearls or something to add a bit of color, peerhaps. However, it works as is. :D

I think this is a great painting! But since you are asking for suggestions, how about a crop? Like this:

Hey, I like the crop! Anyone else got any ideas?

Andrea, if you crop, don't cut off the toe of the right
pointing shoe! And I like Lyn and JJ's suggestions of
pearls draped over the shoes too... You could include
a pair of ticket stubs... or an invitation?
