This has nothing to do with hugging your Grandmother!

I posted this in the Still Life forum out of habit, but realized my hand disqualified it from being still life...so here it is.

Thanks Connie, Tracey, Krysta!

My wife thought my hand looked creepy.

The fingers appear to be properly foreshortened. But perhaps you held it too close to your face. This can exaggerate the foreshortening, kind of like fish-eye and zoom lenses can distort a photo. Sometimes a painting has to lie to give the illusion of reality :)

Great composition. I think the problem is that you apple looks flat on the top. The rest is nicely rounded but the area between the highlight and the stalk doesn't quite work.

Incidentally I would have accepted this over in still life :D

I don't see anything creepy about it. Spouses are usually the worst critics! ha. The only thing that may be CREEPY is my first thought when I first saw your title...I pictured a little ole' granny, blue hair and all, being carried away...lol!

Thanks for your comments Albert. I actually work from photos mostly, so this was held at arm's length.

Thanks Tracey...I usually try to work the word Granny into my paintings of Granny Smith apples. Weird, I know.

Carol, thanks for your constructive comments. The top is a bit flat (now if I could find the painting, I would fix it :D )

Thanks Krysta. Maybe it reminded her of "Thing" from the Adams Family TV show!

Thansk 3chaway9!

Thanks Karen! I think I'm hooked on dark backgrounds right now.

Thanks Julia! I'm thinking about biting my granny next... :D

hehehe...I'll be waiting for that one! I can just see it now...big ol chomping teeth sinking into that apple. Actually, that would be a pretty cool painting :D
