Acrylic on canvas 24" X 36"

Haven't been able to do much painting lately, but had to try to catch a bit of our local Sunsets. I know there isn't much in the forground to hold your attention, but I just am not very good at composistion. Comments and suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi Mary
Who wants a foreground with such a dramatic, colourful sky. Lovely and bright painting, like the cactus profiles too.It would cheer me up every day.

The foreground looks just fine to me! Works really well with the vertical cactus profiles. Shouldn't be too much foreground as it is all about the sunset. Love the redish-colour of the distanced trees/bushes in the foreground. Nice!

p.s - seems that only people from denmark react on this so far - no matter where in the world this "denmark" is :D

Wonderful Mary! The foreground is the perfect foil against that sky!

We're had some GORGEOUS sunsets lately, haven't we!! I've been in awe every evening!

I agree with the others, who cares what the foreground looks like when you have that sky! Having said that, I think your foreground is wonderful. :D Very nice, I just love your clouds. I usually paint in oils because of the long open time. How did you manage with the acrylics?

It's a wonderful sky. Has a nice glow to it. The forground is fine, it's secondary. The only C&C would be that the cactus all look like clones ?
But I don't know anything about cactus,.. it's a good piece.

Hi Mary,
Beautiful work. Sunsets and sunrises are more about the sky, unless there are some good tonal variations or shapes going on in the foreground. Well done.

I have tried to post this about 10 times, and it keeps saying it is a duplicate post. If all those posts get posted, I will look like the computer idiot I am. :D
Please someone delete any duplicates that appear. Sorry if I have caused trouble for you.

I wish I knew how to tell every one who took the time to look and post how much I appreciate your comments. I have been in a real funk for quite awhile and you have given me a real boost.
Thanks to everyone!!!!

Jane, Thanks so much.

Bart, I made a copy of the revision in your pm, and it is very helpful. Many thanks.

Helen, I think our sunsets are Natures way of saying, sorry no beautiful snow or fall leaves, but I give you instead these wonderful sky's.

Betsy, I have only done a couple of oils and I made a right old mess of them. I really like what others have been able to do with them, but so far I haven't been able to figure out how to handle them.

Julia, If that is your Grand Daughter she is a doll. Thanks for the post.

Gaugin, Ya caught me. I took the easy way out and it shows. Very few of the cactus have the one on each side arms. I will see if I can spruce em up a bit.

Joni, Many Thanks!

Marty, Thanks for the kind words.

I just love this sunset, Mary, and I think the composition is great too. The foreground doesn't do anything to compete with the sky...it just points to it. That's great!
