Hi Gilberte.....thanks for dropping by....actually...think I'm suffering from holiday burn out....working on the dobell drawing has been extremely frustrating......apart from getting pastel dust in my eyes.....do you ever get the feeling...that you know you can do better.....but ....something is getting in the way.....or as Salvidor Dali said....you need the help of an angel on your shoulder...or something like that....at the moment I think my angel has flown away....... :( :( ....
k....

Hi Kim that's exactly how I felt yesterday. This morning when I got up I knew nothing else mattered except I get centred again, success didn't matter and for that time even the painting didn't matter. What mattered was getting the inner sense of rightness and peace with myself so I could focus again, and then everything outside of me seems to just fall into place. The whole world is working with me.

Does that give you a hint as to how my own leap forward has come about?

Mikey

laketrees
07-15-2005, 06:35 AM
Hi and thanks Mikey......I can relate to this....and perhaps my leap is to do with bordering into the abstract domain...which happens when I'm frustrated with the figurative.... ....maybe I should do an abstract every week as....I do believe the more practice can only make you better.....with the different genres...so while I'm waiting for my abstract angel....I will.....try some centering and focus....good advice Mikey.....will go and have a chamomile tea......

Hi Kim,
I know exactly how you feel. It happens to me as well ... Maybe your Patron Saint is having the blues too

binnable watercolors :wink2:

Hi Gilberte.....It's so good to know that I'm not alone in my thinking..... I think my patron saint is AWOL.......postcards...what a good idea......I will try that...if these itty bitty rotten pastels don't make it to the framers.......

Hi Kathleen.....spent 5 hours up at kurri...the weather was sunny but freezing....we were pretty productive...so that was relaxing.... ..I painted over the left figure completely...still not right...head shoulders alignment.....the 1'' grooves are a challenge....Dave was painting too ... :D railing of clubhouse and Alexander did bowls and roof....Charlotte was at ballet but she is coming up tomorrow..to paint the kooka and our signature...think we'll be finished next weekend...rain put us back some.....up to 15 hrs so far

A Few Pigments
07-22-2005, 02:33 PM
Hi Kim,

I’ve been wondering what kind of paint you’re using for this. It looks like you’re not doing any blending so it must be something that dries very quickly.

laketrees
07-23-2005, 05:40 AM
Hi Bruce.....I'm using acrylic..exterior housepaint...(supplied)...the paint dries in a second so absolutely impossible to blend...not that I'm a big fan of blending.....only blended on a few portraits...the last being...the girl with pearl earring...nearly wore my fingers away......doing a bit of scumbling...repainting....etc...anything that gets the effect from a distance...worked on it 5 hours today...still working on left bowler.... ..at the moment being unco-operative...so will work on left tree and sky tomorrow...
:) ..kim

Mikey
07-23-2005, 08:39 AM
Hi Kim, I'm finding the real problem is working at this scale and not being able to see the whole body at painting distance. Like you it's not so easy for me to step back, in my case due to limitations of spaace in the room. It's a good excercise.

Mikey

07-24-2005, 04:43 AM
Hi Mikey...just as well you're not on scaffolding.....I actually get vertigo on the top level....finally much happier with left bowler's face...still some adjusting on left face and neck where the 1" groove is ...worked on lower half of tree.....Charlotte on top section of green....Dave on building..and Alexander on clouds....9 hours total...this weekend...getting there..... :D ...cuz Peter came to visit.... ...plus 1 person enquiring about indoor murals for her gym...and a lovely young girl...who was having her birthday party at the club...she paints so told her about WC...and..gave her the address....she enquired about me painting her portrait.....
think we have another 2 weekends on this.....

Belated Happy Birthday! I missed the end of this one as I was off in the States becoming a Yank. Super finish and another one on the way. I love the drawings. Do you just use felt tips for these? They are little mini works of art all on their own. You should sell the sketches as postcards!

Hi Kim
Belated Happy Birthday Kim! I can’t believe you’re painting yet another mural. If you keep going like this you’ll soon paint over your entire town. I wonder if there’s anything in Riply’s about that? May be you could start a whole new category for the most murals by one artist in a single town. Good luck with your new mural. :)
