These 3 sketches were posted in the Pastel Sketch Thread, and it was suggested they might be of interest to Plein-Air. They're all on Colourfix paper, with a watercolour underpainting and soft pastel over it. Rembrandts, Unisons, and Schminckes.

# 1 is 5" x 7" and was done at the scene, about one hour.

#2 is also 5" x 7". It was a studio attempt to improve on the original, also an hour.

For #3, I went back to the plein-air site at the same time of day as before. The viewpoint is a little different, though. #1 faced the river, but this one faces away. About two hours.

This was supposed to go in Plein Air, not Plein Air Studio Paintings. My apologies. So as not to over-post, I'll just leave it alone now.

i love your trees, they are full of character!
i like tree nr 1 a lot
but the top bothers me..too straight, following the paper
i would have continued upwards......
the composition on nr3 works well
great rendering and colors

Bobbo, thank you so much for your comment. You're right about the flat top on #1. I'm not really very comfortable working in small sizes, and tend to squoosh the subject onto the page. I think for trees especially you need the space for a wide, free gesture. With #3, I took more care to get the proportions right, so there was more space for the branches - plus it's a bigger size of paper. Thanks again for looking.

these are very nice and the top one just needs cropping a bit at the top to fix that straight edge.
