Trying to work out a few things for an upcoming project. First done as a pencil sketch in ol' Academie sketch pad. Re-drawn in Painter. Finished in Painter and Photoshop. Playing with textures, lighting and shadows. Also, playing with filters.
I don't usually use filters in my "fine art" (for lack of a better term) digital work, preferring instead to use as much of traditional painting and drawing techniques as possible. However, for my comic and cartoon work, I like to work with filters. I liken them to the special effects used in the movies. As long as I can use the filter as an enhancement (versus a crutch) and it helps to advance the story, I'll use it.
I'd like to hear your opinions (on the piece and using filters).
