Hi all..This was one of the biggest undertakings I have ever tried..a larger painting for me..a human face(my sister) and background and foreground..the whole thing was quite a challenge for me! This painting depicts my sis on her horse at opening meet at her local hunt..hence the fancier riding attire..top hat and shadbelly coat. She seems to really like it..but I was toying with the idea of putting a hound or two in the foreground..not sure if it would make it too crowded or not. I am sure when I post this that I will find some glaring errors...you know how it is when you post!! The colors are a lot nicer on the real painting as from the photo of it..it looks a little too light in the photo..oh well ..you get the idea!

Dana, spectacular! Sounds like you really challenged yourself and it paid off. I love the colors in the horse, the reddish tones under the darker part of the bay is really nice. I don't know that I'd add any hounds, it looks so good now...but I'm sure it would look good with a hound or two too! Nice work, you should be very proud.

WOW, I love it. You have done a wonderful job. I love the horse, his colours are beautiful. I like it just the way it is, but some hounds in the background wouldnt pose a problem.

Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Oh WOW, this is absolutely superb. Your sister is going to love it. I love the colours you have chosen for the horse, and also for the background. A really, really beautiful painting. I wouldn't be game to add any hounds incase I made a mess of it, but I'm not you.

This turned out great and I do not think if it was me that I would add any hounds they are not really necessary. I love the fact that you challenged yourself but more imprtantly that you rose to the challenge and completed a great painting.
Keep up the good work.

This is wonderful Dana. If you wanted to add a couple of hounds I don't see a problem. But I think it is perfect as it is. I think you have done a wonderful job with the background, doesn't compete but compliments perfectly.

As Sam said it is importat to keep challenging yourself and you rose to the challenge superbly

Well Done

You did a fantastic job! Great greens! what colours did you use to get them?
I'm undecided about the hounds. As a piece in gereral they would help the viewer understand that it is a hunt. But horse people in general would think that it is a hunt or a dressage show.
Either way it is a very nice piece!

Beautiful work Dana! I can see why your sister likes it! I would be afraid to put the hounds, but you do so well with dogs.....Maybe you could do a mock up to see if it would look too crowded and then decide. Even if you did cutouts and held them up to the painting to see. Its so nice, as is, really.

Thanks everyone so much for your wonderful comments!! I think I have decided not to put in the hounds..like you Barbara.and Val...I am afraid I might mess it up!! Besides..my sister likes it as is...phewww!! Twyla..I am not positive..but I think I used sap green, juane brilliant, and white for the lighter greens..maybe some yellow ochre..its been about a month since I finished that part. Now I am sure I can come up with some more challenges..hehehe
Thanks again..it really means alot to me..I even printed out the comments to show my sister and my dad!
