View Full Version : Her Red Dress

I blocked out the figures in acrylic and will finish up this painting with oil. My problem is that when i used white on the man's shirt it detracts from the red dress. I want the painting to be about her red dress so what should i do instead of using titanium white for the man's shirt. Any suggestions?

Abigail, before worrying about the man's shirt there's a few other things. First of all don't use Titanium White for the flesh, apart from the local colour stage. Use Zinc, or Cremnitz White. But, a big but, the Cremnitz is lead and dangerous to children. You want to show the dress as richly as possible, then paint with Cadmium Red Light, then glaze with Alizarin. Leave some Cadmium Red showing for the highlights. Then you will be able to judge the shirt better.
