View Full Version : another hotel pool mural
Here's a 2-day quickie, approx. 9' x 14'... that dark thing is a sea-monster sculpture, and those are Christmas ornaments hanging from the ceiling. The lighthouse light is an actual light fixture that sticks out from the wall, and the control to the hot tub is below it.

I like this one a lot! I think it is because it has a sort of surreal quality to it - not sure why. Probably something to do with the light house and scale. Great stuff! :D

Your paintings are very, very good, just wondered where a person get's their start doing what you do? What kind of paint do you use when painting murals?
Flash, I use mostly acrylic paint and interior latex. Murals in high-traffic areas like this will also get a couple of coats of Polycrylic varnish.
I got started by doing a mural for a friend in her house, took pictures of it and went visiting interior decorators. I found one who was looking for a muralist, and got some valuable experience in what to do and especially what not to do!
I had business cards printed and left them everywhere. Paint stores, craft stores, bulletin boards, decorator shops. I personally visited every decorator in town. I told all my friends to talk to their friends about what I was doing. Most of my work has come through friends of friends and word-of-mouth, and people seeing my work somewhere.
