As always, JPEGs can render my comment completely wrong:(. I would say that the flowers are too strong in terms of the pure white-red mixture. Compare them to the pear, glass, jug, pedals and even table. These other objects are in more subtle and toned down colours. Perhaps bring some of these colours into the flowers to better incorporate them into the over all work.

Ruth, another fine painting with great colour. My only comment is the 'pear', because it is out in front and in full light it acts as a second focal point. The pear needed to be in the back ground in shadow -- What do you think?

Personally I love the fresh pink of the flowers and on my monitor can see touches of that in the jug and table surface......... though I too find with my own jpg. postings colours are not always very true.

It is the pear I have a problem with.......... standing upright , as it does, it echoes the jug shape too strongly IMHO. I wonder what it would look like laid on its side? And perhaps slightly softer focus.......& perhaps relating more to the pinks and greens of the flowers?

Personally, I think I would look for something else altogether... .. if you are committed to fruit, perhaps something of less strong outline, like cherries?

I hope you don't think my comments too bold, having just entered this forum!

Thank you all so much for your thoughtful comments!

Being a teacher at heart, I like to post things that will be helpful to others. Seems like I learn a lot from my own mistakes and hopefully others can, too.

I love painting still lifes. I'm trying to learn about how to compose them and choose elements and objects that will work together. All comments and ideas are greatly appreciated!
