View Full Version : Rules for a good abstract painting?
Are their any rules or special considerations that would allow one to create a better abstract painting. What makes a good abstract? How can one self critique an abstract painting?
Hi Phyllis
Same design principles/elements apply
ie, harmony/contrast, line, rhythm, shape, color, texture, scale/proportion, etc. Not ALL used in the same composition but you know what I mean.

:) Hi, I've had a recent introduction to abstract composition, as mame said the same rules still apply.
dark to light tones to denote foreground to background or light to dark, which either way you wish to take it.
the planes closest to the bottom is usually on top (else others on top will seem to float)
variety in shape, texture and size.
good luck, mjk
