I'm attempting to paint our barn owl "lynx" for the first time. Only ever painted one bird before this so it's all new to me.
Watercolour approx 9x7"
Transferred my sketch onto bockingford 200lb NOT paper and started to fill in the darkest corner........

This is our very own owl, my son took him in when he was 11 years old after we saw the awful conditions he was being kept in. He was dangerously underweight and he basically saved his life. :)
Here is where I left it last night....

That is so sweet of you son to save "lynx".
Kim...I love kookoburras...they are so funny...with the squre flat little heads...we have some magpies here in Copehagen..they are sneakly little ones.. :D

In the ref I am using the darkest corner is almost black and the lightest lights are almost white which drowns the detail a little so I'm falling on memory and imagination for the dark corner...glad you think it looks ok! :)

Nitsa, LOVe the owl, I don't like the dark mortar to the left of his head. It detracts from him, and I think since there is so much light on his head it wouldn't be that dark there anyway, and even if it were, it would be better pictorially to lighten it a bit. :-) But the owl is beautiful. :cat:
