Hey Gang, here is a studio painting 9x12 done in about 7 hours (with several breaks). I've posted the original photo and a shot with one of the 3 plien air references I used. As always, your C&C is most welcomed and appreciated.

Stupendous work Richard. Now I see why you need the frame of mine you're bidding on! Tremendous, really. Great job. How great to have someone like you to admire.

Hey Hey Sean, small world! Yep that frame of yours looks like it might work nicely and if not on this one, I'll keep painting till I get one that does. Thanks so much for the compliment. :)

Wow...I'm glad I stopped by...your painting is waaaayyyy better than the original picture itself. Your colors are more exciting. Great work.

I see in your other thread your plein airs seem to be quite complete already(and very good), and what would be your motive to make a large studio painting? And do you find it's easy to relie on the photo too much in studio even when you have a plein air as your reference?

thanks

Hey Nancy! :) Many thanks. I did get a bit of good news last night. I got a call that I was juried in to the Estes Park Plein Air 2005 Show. I'm pretty excited about it. Got home around 10pm after an 8 hour drive from Corpus Christi and was pretty beat but after I heard the phone message.....couldn't go to sleep till about 1:00 am.

Did you get to take your trip to NM? If so, I hope it well for you.

Take Care

Congrats on getting in to the Paint Out in Estes!!!

That's a great show with some wonderful artists - you'll have a blast :)

The NM trip was REALLY quick...essentially one day, and only 1/2 day of galleries :( We're going to have to go back soon to really check it out. There are some great galleries on Canyon Road...more later via PM :)

You did a great job with those shadows in the mountains. You capture the time of day with great light and your composition is really beautiful too. Great job.
