The size is 18 x 12 inches. I know it's the usual mess I begin with and I'm happy with that. What I am not happy with is the fact of my using the turps I had left from The Bather, because that had linseed in it.

Hi Mikey, Iíve used old turps and Liquin on paintings without worrying about the fat over lean bit.

Is this painting from some one famous or from your imagination? It looks like one from your imagination. Why is she holding a sword? Iím working on one with a dragon. I hope sheís not going to use her sword on my dragon.

Hi Bruce, Cabanel was an academician at about the same time as Bouguereau. He was known for slave girls, harems and Egyptian scenes. This page boy is quite decorative and the sword seems to be of the type that was never drawn in anger, so your dragon will be safe.

I think it was him who is best known for that pink absurdity called Venus on the waves. She is rather plump and jolly.

To make matters worse this is a piece of board used for a previous painting and a tried gesso over the dry oil paint. There seems to be no soak at all. We live and learn - hopefully.

Thanks Kim, I'll try using the drawing, but wiping back with white spirit bit by bit. The original is nice and colourful.

The paint application is still difficult, even after rubbing back. I'll let it dry out a bit and get on with something else.

Good to see you Gilberte. I'll be patient and wait with this one while it dries. I'm with my angel at the moment. Well it was Leonardo's angel, but I've kind of made him/her mine.

Thanks Lisa and KA. I've spent a little bit of time building the face modelling, but got flu, so went to bed.

Hi Mikey....clever you ...working on 2 paintings at once....I think we need to open some windows in this forum....we don't want everyone catching this flu.... :D :D

Hi Kim, I couldn't stay in bed any longer and having had some sleep began work on a third painting tonight. I do this because I can't work in colour at night. I feeling a lot better now thanks and so are you I hope.

My paige is not too easy to work, especially the darks. I'm making him a little bit more masculine rather than Cabanel's very pretty boy. It might be worth doing one on a new canvas.

I've been working on his head this afternoon, with a mind to make him just that much more masculine.

He is a very pretty boy! Weren't paiges all young - so would not be outrageously masculine. Its going to be lovely Mikey!

Mikey

Whose a pretty boy then. Thanks KA. There's a lot of pattern to put into his blue jacket and a lot of work on the sword scabard which seems to be a little out of place.

I haven't done much more work on this and that blue garment isn't anywhere near finished, but this may be the last chance for a while I have to post a file.

Hi Mikey, Super work on the face...I also really like the softness in the face. Yes, the pretty look suits him... The features and skin are so well done.
Great work also on the jacket!
Your moving Mikey? Good luck with the move...Moving is a real pain in the a$$! I move so much and it always stresses me....

Gilberte

I do love the head, the face, the hair .. you've been doing well Mikey.

Hope you're having a comfortable move and lots of help ...

Mikey

Wow, they haven't cut me off yet.

Thanks KA, the jacket is going to have more blue with Cremnitz White and more highlights. I'll have to get some new brushes for the sword.

Thanks Kim and Gilberte.

Lisa, moving is stress, but not too much in my case. It'll soon all be over. Thanks for the kind comments.

The removal van is coming at 4 o'clock this afternoon. The cat is upset, because she doesn't want me to leave, but doesn't feel able to leave her territory. NTL now tell me they can't get a cable to my new place, so they will have to use a BT phone line. It will be cheaper anyway. So I can be in touch at the Library by PM if necessary, as well as the OC Forum, but not e-mail until I get the internet at the new place sorted out.

I must tell you that this one is my favourite of your last learning paintings. He has something special in his expression that is very attractive to me.
As usual great work.

Thanks KA and Linda. I'm in the public library now and it's free. The move went well. It is what you might call bijou. Is that right, or let's just say tiny, but it fine for me.

Hi Caroline I didn't bring the painting with me because it was still wet. Maybe this Sunday. The move went well.

Thanks Kim, the cat will have cuddles and hugs without me to be sure. They do adapt with people, but not places I think.

Gilberte, loads of room to paint. I stuck my paintings of Sweetheart in the blue dress on the wall and oh boy saw all the faults writ large like I hadn't at the time. I just had to get the brush out and redo it.

Thanks Bruce. Yes I have begun painting now.

Thanks KA. It's just a shame I didn't do this one on a proper canvas as it isn't much good for anything as it is. It was a good exercise though.
