Hello everyone!!
I joined the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Assoc.(MAPAPA) and participated in a paint out last Sunday at Great Falls, Potomac Maryland. The weather was "iffy" with clouds & drizzle so the artist turn out was dissapointing. The location was very inspiring...worth the risk!!
I loved the river & set up along the bank to try & capture the rushing water. I wanted to look at my painting and hear the river!
The result of my effort is this 6x9
Soft pastel on Mist Grey Wallis paper
Painting time 1 hour

I had time so I painted another scene from where I was standing.
9x12 soft pastel on Mist Grey Wallis paper. Painting time 1 1/2 hours.

Hi Annette
A difficult subject
the sound of the water in the first can be seen in the foam
both are so small for pastel, don't know how you do it.

Dan--I'll admit the 6x9 is a bit small but fun! I know I can finish! I like to paint under 2 hours and I haven't done anything bigger than 9x15 plein air at this point...I admire your big expressive paintings...too much for me though!

Very cool Annette, I love the second, you caught the water's movement so well. Lori

Hi annette, I can't get over how small you work. Both pieces look great, very expressive and capturing the mood of the scene very well. It's always a challenge when working in poor weather conditions but sometimes you manage to get the magic in the strangest of places.
