Hi everyone,

I am 16 years old and plan on going to an art college in two years. Right now I am trying to put stuff together for my portfolio and improve on drawing.

Here is a picture of a parrot I am working on. Please give me any suggestions/comments you have. Also, I am trying to make the beak look more smooth, but I can't get it right.

Thanks! :)

Keep going. Beaks aren't always smooth. You have a fine beginning and should continue to slowly build your values. You have the direction, now just keep going. Just think, if this is your biggest problem drawing at 16, how great are you going to be at 30??? Keep at it, the race goes to he who perseveres.

Nice, really nice drawing.

Thanks, I'll keep working at it. The beak really shouldn't be so hard since I actually have two parrots that I can study :).

You have done an excellent job so far on this parrot.

You have an amazing amount of talent and so young! So glad to hear you're going to art school - you will do well!

What kind of parrots do you have?

What kind of parrots do you have?

I have a Red Bellied Parrot and a Golden Capped Conure. The Red Belly is about 1 1/2 years old and the Conure is less than a year old.

I thought your drawing looked like a Meyer's parrot, which is a poicephalus parrot closely related to the redbelly. I like the drawing, it captures a playfull expression these little guys have. Your birds are beautiful.

Thanks! I also did get a little bit further with the drawing, but has to be pushed back a little bit. I havn't had much time to draw at all this week since I was home sick everyday. I have so much homework to make up :( .

I hope to have another pic up soon.

Hi everyone,

I got a little bit further, hopefully I'm improving. Please let me know what you think, and if you have any suggestions.

Also, how much darker should I be getting? I don't really like how it looks so light.

Thanks!
