What do you think makes Tole "Tole"?
Is it the learning of the technique or is it the fact that most of it is done on mostly stuff other than canvas as in painting?

isn't "tole" an english word too? In french it means a kind of metal just like the kind you would use to go collect maple sap in the spring.Actually, a lot of people paint on them now as the old antique milk containers are way too expensive by now...
Hope this answers your question...

Tammy,

I believe it is learning the different strokes and it's preciseness that makes it tole. There are tole/decorative painters who also paint their works on paper besides 'stuff'. This is a decorative form of painting, it is meant to decorate not to have a meaning behind the work so-to-speak.

Warmth,
ReNae

Aaaahhhhhh, very good answer. I just wanted to make sure that it didn't totally exclude Tole techniques on canvas! :-)
