Old St Mary's

This is the old St Mary's church in my town. It was abandoned when the congreation found the money to build a bigger new church. It sits on the Green and is now used as a meeting place for a variety of groups.

I'm painting this on a 12 x 12" canvas and hope to keep the style simple, not primitive, but simple. I'm thinking of a series of these old clapboard churches from all the towns around here.

The church is blocked in and I think the trees will make or break this one.

Good start, Kathleen. The first thing that I noticed was the height of the tree. It isn't anywhere as tall as any in your reference photo. It should be taller for balance, IMO. I look forward to seeing this develop :)
