Here is one that I'm currently working on. This is 16x20 in Acrylics. I'm getting help from other forums on the nose/mouth and shading/highlights. Can anyone give any ideas as to a background palette that won't detract from the horse?

A complimentary color would work for you.........maybe a blue on the purple side? :)

Thank you, Shirley? Do you think it should it be like a solid or sponge effect, or should I work in a landscape type background with a fence and the ground?

I like backgrounds that have some interest......interesting intermingled colors or scenes but that is just my personal preference. :)

I know your question is about the background, but i must say that you need to reposition the eye. It is too high on the head...move it closer towards the jaw. Redrraw the top of the eye where the bottom of the eye is currently, and draw from there. I hope this helps!
