Your posting haunted me and I looked far and wide, finally thinking I had found it! BUT it is Munsell.
I am dieing to know what you are talking about so if YOU find it, please post for us.
Also, Harley Brown's new book is bending my brain with his introduction to Munsell.
Let us know what you think of it.

PS, did you post this over in the color theory forum?
Are you referring to Carlo Maratta (1625-1713) high Baroque period painter also spelled Carlo Maratti who restored some of Raphael's frescos in Vatican. If so many links on web searching those names.
Found mention of Hardesty Maratta's theories of color and composition in a biography of Robert Henri at the Yale rare book and manuscript library site. Robert Henri taught at the Art Students League in New York in the early 20th century and was leader of "The Eight" and the "Ashcan School" so Hardesty Maratta is probably the one you seek. The biography of Henri and discussion of his art notebooks and sketches and much more are discussed at the following link which probably will give you some leads for investigating further:
Sorry--link did not work. Hate the long addresses. This one needs not www but http://

Hey Niol! I found the same site. Drives you crazy when you are only teased!
We may have to move the question over to Gerbois just to get them interested!
I don't think anyone reads the composition or color theory forums.
I am very interested now! It is like a mission.

Good Idea D.J. I'll move this one over to Color Theory for safe keeping but also leave a message in the cafe that there is a "very interesting article" in Color Theory and Mixing.
