Does anyone have a favorite formula for making the color of cement, such as in sidewalks; and of granite, such as in buildings?

What I have used in the past is just titanium white + a dot of ivory black, and it really is a boring mixture. Anything else I have tried just turns to unusable mud.

Think in terms of mixing complementary colors almost equally and adding touches of white, and considering surrounding colors when you are creating these. Hopefully will give you a more lively variation.

hey rebob

it depends on the media in which you are working, but for watercolour use burnt sienna and ultramarine blue

keep adding one to the other until you find the grey you need; add less water for light areas of the cement.

in acrylic or gouache i'd assume the same sort of application, may have to use some white and oil you would have to use a little titanium white

but i've only done it in watercolour http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif
