GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Simpson Desert
Year Created: 2005
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Dimension: 20x16
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
Painted from a photo in a book about Australia. I wanted to capture the stark contrast of the red desert and the sky and also use a little Aboriginal painting technique. (Sorry about light reflection, lousy photographer!)

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
Any comments will be welcome. :)

Very interesting. The contrast is very bold and your perspective is excellent.

The only niggle I have is that the way the dunes meet in the bottom left corner of your picture, it throws the eye a little. It seems to disrupt the tranquil flow of the rest of the picture.

Overall, an excellent piece to sit by on a cold day to warm you.

Regards,

Brian.

Nice use of pattern vs. empty space.

I love the palette; scorching with a depth of cool earth beneath which ties the sky into it nicely. Agree about the patterning as well: simplistically effective.

Interestingly bold graphic handling - successful

One point on the photography - don't use flash (I'm guessing you did, and that's what's bouncing back as glare.)

Thank you so much for your replies. THe Australian outback and desert have some amazing colours. I agree about the dune on the bottom left, it just doesn't look right does it?

Thank you again! No flash next time!!
