Bruce ....you outdid yourself this month...what an extensive collection of works....How interesting it is that Edouard Manet was her brother in law....Let me know..did her husband, Edouard's brother, paint also? (the answer is probably somewhere in the post and I just missed it)

I was most smitten with On The Lawn....she used multiple triangle shapes, repeated in herself, the girl's dress, dog , tree and negative space.....I think her pastels were more impressive than the oils.

Thanks for the history lesson....I am going to casually drop Berthe's name in conversation somehow when I go to another pastel workshop. :wink2:

Hi prestonsega, good to see you here. :) I don't know if her husband, Edouard's brother, was an artist, but I'll find out for you. One thing I do know about Morisot though is she was surrounded by artists all her life. Must be nice uh?

Now there's the making of a romantic movie...  I enjoy the artist bio movies that I am seeing more of lately on the tube. Girl with Pearl Earring was on last week but I caught it right at the end. :(

prestonsega I can't find anything on the web about Edouard Manet's brother, so I don't know what he did for a living. I don't think he was an artist though. Here's another Bio on Edouard Manet with a bit about his brother

I hadn't seen some of those pastels, so thank you for this. I love the graphic quality of some of them. Ireckon the modern-day RA, Diana Armfield, was influenced by these.

Thank you Jackie. :) I don’t know about the modern-day RA, because I don’t know what or who an RA is. I know a RN is a registered nurse.
