View Full Version : Have You Seen This Miniature Ebay Auction???
Wow! Will you look at the prices she's getting for these?!
I'm wondering why they're going for so much ... I mean, I'm not saying they're not really cute .. they are ... but wow .. the prices that folks are paying for these little pieces are amazing!

Interesting that it's the same 2 bidders and that one of them uses a name mashira. The name she signs the bottom of the auction with is mar. Don't know, looks off to me. Looks like some shill bidding going on.

I agree with Tam. Very suspicious. If you go and look the feedback is soo much alike its tells me this could be someone with mulitiple identities driving up their own reputation in art. Compare feedback from several people and see if they don't sound too much alike.
It sometimes is never as it seems.

I don't mean to be unkind but I really don't see why they would go for such high bids.
Love,
Linda

Hi Tamara,
What's shill bidding?
The whole thing DOES seem strange ... only because these pieces (all though cute) just don't seem to be something that would get such high prices.
The name thing IS strange ... isn't it?

Hi Pilan,
Yeah, you're right ... the feedback does sound funny. It just all looks odd to me, cause I just can't figure out why one would pay such high prices for these pieces ... unless they were from a very well known artist.
Am I being too critical?

Hi Linda,
That's ok ... I was thinking the same thing. :)

Shill bidding is when someone opens several accounts and then bids on their own auctions to increase the value/visability of their item or they get friends/family to bid on their items. A sale never really happens if they or their friends wins and if it's not caught by ebay then they end up paying the FVF themselves. But, those that do it figure the cost is worth the risk. BTW it is illegal and can get a seller kick off ebay.

I know her. I met her at an art show here in Minnesota. She is a very sweet, nice person. It was the same thing at the art show; her pieces were colorful, the prints well done. She did very well at that show then, so I suppose this really doesn't surprise me too much. I envy her, getting those prices. :envy:

Hi Chris,
I'm not saying anything against her personally ... but I just don't "get" it, that there are 7 bids on a 6" x 1 1/4" wood bird that's not painted any better than many artists could do ... and the high bid is now $82.00 !!!!
That's $82.00 for this piece:

I just can't fathom it ... even for a very talented artist .... somebody PLEASE tell me I'm NOT crazy. LOL!!

Hi folks,
I'm an old lurker to this website but I couldn't help notice this post and had to comment. I've done some dabbling with selling miniatures on ebay just as a kind of a whim. I can honestly say, I don't know how this person is getting these high prices for her work. I personally think her work isn't all that good even though she is an accomplished artist. (its purely a personal preference though). Some of those pics look like something I've seen on greeting cards though, especially the ones with the pigs with wings.
It could very well be shill bidding - but if nobody reports the possibility to ebay, she will continue to get away with it. I know it sounds like "ratting on someone" but that is the only way ebay can be kept safe, if it police's itself. I had a lot of problems with some tole painting artists who I truly believe got away with this about a year or so ago.She was getting bids for over $100 for hand painted items that should have been selling at $10 to $20. Someone reported her to ebay for some other "infraction" of the ebay rules and ......funny thing, her items started selling at "normal" prices!!!
Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents......hahaha
