Wow ! Outstanding! I love the way you handled the shadows, clean crisp lines in the chair, a lovely looseness in the foliage. Darn good job!

There are links here already (in this forum - see anything relating to size, dimension, etc).
In England the Hilliard artinminiature (there is a hyphen in there somewhere).
And the Miniature Society in Florida, USA is about the best known.
If entering shows, search for la petite, small format and miniature.
If you want to see more miniatures go to dollshouses on ebay - miniatures, artists offerings, contemporary and run a search on 'paintings' as a key word.
In the art section you can run a seach there too, on 'miniature'. Some people end up spelling it wrong, without the a though. :) I think in the art section you can check for art under 6" anyway - so a lot of that will be 'miniature'.

Jillian

By the way, this would even be gorgeous as a large painting, you have so much wonderful light in it.

Nicely done! You have the chair so well drawn, proportions correct. I don't like drawing chairs either, but I can certainly admire an artist that can do it well.

Thank you Shelley and Chris for your kind words :D
Jillian, thank you again for your responses - I'd read your threads/comments/links.....actually, my comment about joining a society was really 'tongue in cheek'! I've exhibited locally, but never thought I was good enough to 'go national'......and these are my first miniatures.........food for thought though - thanks! :D

I think this is vary nice. What do you do with a painting this small? Do you sit it on a table or hang it on a wall ?

I tried to edit my post and ran out of time.
I think it will depend on the type of material tehy were made of and it's archival qualities.
The Vault National Archives of Canada (http://www.collectionscanada.ca/miniatures/051501_e.html) has this indications:
Caring for miniature portraits
Miniatures are extremely sensitive to light and should be stored in the dark and exhibited or shown always under low light levels at maximum 45 Lux except for pertinent photography and/or laboratory examination.
Miniatures should be kept in a cool, dry, dark place with a stable environment, ideally at 50% relative humidity (RH) and 18 degrees Celsius.
The collection is available for consultation by appointment.
Only designated archival staff can move, handle and show miniatures.
White cotton gloves must be worn at all times to handle miniature cases, lockets and frames.
Miniatures are exhibited only in environmentally controlled and stable exhibition rooms and display cases.
Miniatures may be loaned for exhibitions when the highest standards are guaranteed for packing, crating, shipping and installation.
Great care must be taken when handling unframed miniature paintings as body heat generated by the hand will immediately transfer to the miniature.
The one on my mantle is in oils.

Thanks for the encouragement Jillian :)
Lorna, praise indeed! I'm so glad you like this - I was happy with this too (unlike my WDE this week), think I'll stick to minis from now :wink2:
Thank you Mal - at the moment, they're sitting on a table.....some are going for the disaster relief fund in the UK.
Yoyita - thank you for all the info - I think it would be a good idea to copy this to the sticky thread at the top of the forum page...........if you don't do it, I'll copy it later :)
CharM - yes, I noticed in the RIL that it had been used elsewhere - such a nice photo.....thank you for your lovely comment :)

Maureen, This is really wonderful!! I love it - the detail is great. Why do mine get so crowded and muddied up? Yours is fantastic.

No magnifyer - yet - though that may come when the glasses get stronger!
Lol, can't see to read etc without specs but seem able to do these with my reading glasses. I printed the pic to about5x4ins or thereabouts - can't work from the computer screen.
