A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!

Title: Another Chiaroscuro Study
Project Leader: orchidlover6
Relative Difficulty: Irrelevant
Type Restrictions: Any Type
Medium: Any Medium
Subject: Not Applicable
Days open for signups: Always
Maximum participants allowed: Unlimited

Description:

Chiaroscuro is when you use strong contrast in light and dark making for a powerful statement. I thought it was time to hone this skill again.

You may use any mixed mediums you like. Reference photos have been supplied or you may use your own but keep in mind the light/dark contrast required for this project.

The photos supplied are of my children and grandchild. They have given me permission to post their likeness here.

Looking forward to seeing your work.

Additional Information:

For more information on the project: Click here! (http://www.wetcanvas.com//Community/Projects/index.php?cmd=view_details&proj_id=815)

Remember, in order to help keep the discussions on projects organized, you should post your questions, suggestions, and comments on submitted work here in this thread. By doing this, we allow other non-project efforts to not get "pushed down" by a swarm of project-related threads.

This sounds very interesting and it is an effect in painting that has always attracted me. I will give it a try.

This is so real and dramatic. Exactly what is Createx pure pigments?

Thanks you orchidlover, Mary.

Mary, Createx pure pigments are concentrated pigments in water. I learnt about using them with pastels from Kitty Wallis in the pastel forum. Kitty has a very interesting technique for using them using a separation technique - I haven't mastered that one yet.

I love portraits of this kind. Now i finally know what the term for them is. I know i have seen quite a few good chiaroscuro images around, but i can't seem to find any now that i'm hunting! I have found a couple. And i think i have some in a photography book i have... So i should have some art to post soon! :) Sorry i'm so late to join!
