I showed this watercolor and received a variety of reactions as to what message it sends: from despair to revenge to hope.
i guess a work of art does not have to send a single message.

I like this one! I get the feeling of pain and despair in the clenched fist and arm. The colors coming down from where the planes went into the buildings almost wants to look like hope ... possibly a rainbow of colors rather than the black & grey of the smoke in real life.

I really like this too. "Hope" (from the rainbow colors in front of the WTC) and "Strength" came from my gut. Thanks for sharing.

My first pass in the middle part was gayish raw sienna, more or less symbolizing the crumbling towers. the colors imposed themselves. Interestingly enough, some people have seen the rainbow forms as breasts (symbolizing nourishment), helmets (symbolizing victorious revenge).

I like it that there are several possible interpretations.
