 JJ! Gosh, it certainly is quiet in here! Where is everyone?

I've been shopping online. I'm whittling away at my Christmas gift list. Just immediate family and one friend. We decided to draw names in the extended family this year, so just one gift from that. The family is just getting too large to go around everyone--especially as we are on a fixed income.

I'm generally feeling a bit better than I have for the last five months and my ankle is healing quite well (as far as I know! LOL). Now, if I can just summon up the energy to get out a bit more, before we have snow or ice. My friend wants us to go to her house for dinner and to see her Christmas decorations, so I reckon I'll be able to do that. She also offered to come and help me put up some Christmas decorations, so maybe I'll have more than a wreath and a tiny tree! :D

Best wishes to those in the Waiting Room, the Sick Room, and the Recovery/Rehabilitation Room!

AWATC, may your today be better than your yesterday.

Well better go get dressed and get some brekky then off to the office - ROTFL - never thought I would be saying that again. Will take some pics today and post them later.

Good heavens! I'm in shock! Pat up and posting a bit after 8 am! LOL, you must really be excited about this new enterprise! Good luck--and you'll get to see a sunrise! :D

Speaking of sunrises; the other morning we had an absolutely glorious one. From our bedroom window, we can see the mountains and the sun rises over them. It was almost a mackerel sky, and to paint it I would have used permanent rose, tinged with violet as the bases of the clouds and a darker shade of violet--almost black--to paint the mountains. The roof next door is flat, and it collects large puddles of water when it rains. The reflections in the puddles were phenomenal. It made me happy! :)

Hope Kev and Arnold are doing okay.

It is a bit after 4 am here and I'm getting a bit chilly. We are supposed to go below freezing this morning. This has been a very warm, wet fall. We had almost 6 inches of rain in November--one of our drier months! Think I'll go have a cup of hot milk and try to get some sleep while it is still dark!

Good Morning all,

Just past 4:00 a.m. here in Oakwood. Calm and peaceful outside this morning, but cold.

Was WC down again last night? I didn't get any emails about the threads I posted comments on as I usually do. When I opened yesterday's Wash to see what happened after I signed off yesterday, there were tons of posts. So what happened to the notification????

We had a successful day shopping yesterday for DS's birthday present + some Christmas presents—we did it all in one store too so it wasn't too bad. I hate running from pillar to post trying to find things. This year we are going to give one or two gifts and $$$ to let people get what they really need or want. It was easier to shop when everyone was living at home and we knew what they had or what they were longing to have.

I was surprised yesterday to read about the change in ownership for Wet Canvas. Hope everything goes smoothly and we continue to have access to this wonderful site and each other.

JJ, Good luck with the x-ray. Hope it shows everything is where it should be and healing well.
The photo of your grandkid "presents" under the Christmas tree was darling.

Lyn, Glad you are feeling somewhat better and the ankle is healing. It is good that you have such wonderful friends to help you shop and decorate. Good to see you here.

Pat, I'd say your venture has given you new verve! Getting up early in the morning several days in a row must mean you are pretty excited about your new office and venture. Best wishes for a really successful company.

Today is my final art class which is really our critique and dine meeting. We each bring in one of our paintings framed to show the class and get a critique from them. I'm taking in the cockatoos painting I did recently and showed you all here already. We all bring in a dish to share for a celebratory luncheon. I'm making deviled eggs. They always seem to be something people enjoy eating. We are limited because there is no way to keep warm foods warm. I'll put the dish with the eggs on a bed of ice to stay chilled and safe to eat.

Off to check out the Gallery.

SYL,

Sylvia

LOL - the world of commerce will never be the same!!

Lyn - glad you're feeling better

Mornin' JJ and Dominic.

Sylvia I missed your cockatoo painting, I'll have to go look for it.

I've been meaning to paint the last couple days but I just have too much school stuff to do. By the time I've finished it's just been too darn late to get going on anything. grrrr. Maybe this evening, although I doubt it. Part of the problem is I won't be around all weekend so the work I normally do on weekends won't get done, so yada yada yada the brushes stay dry ...
I'm flying to Massachusetts Friday evening. I'm going to see my mom. She is doing so much better! She was actually able to go to my sister's house for a few hours on Thanksgiving day. I called and talked to her and it was like nothing ever happened!! I'm attributing some of her recovery to all the white light you sent her way. THANK YOU!!

Have a great day everbody!!

Good morning JJ, Lyn, Pat, Sylvia, Dominic, and AWATYC. It's 3:30 AM here. [Hi Bob - you snuck in while I was posting.]

Three photos from my brief, cold outing yesterday morning. When I checked the thermometer it was 37 Fahrenheit. Now many of you have real weather so 37 is balmy for you. But for coastal Southern California, it's rare. Anyway, after de-icing the windshield (something I've never had to do in 20 + years here), I drove to the local park. I figured I'd document the unusually cold weather by taking pics of the frost/ice on the picnic tables. But I soon got interested in the colors and patterns of extreme close-ups:

1) Cropped, and color saturation & contrast boosted just a bit with PSP8.
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Dec-2004/23514-506.jpg

2) This one shows some of the ice/frost. No digital manipulation used on this photo.
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Dec-2004/23514-512.jpg

3) Does anyone know what kind of bird this is? I can't find anything like it in either of my usual field guides. I love the coral-colored feet and the ring around the eye.

Have a good day everyone.

Hi everyone

Up very late this morning - 10am! What's the world coming to when Pat is up 2 hours before me? Can it last I ask . :wink2:

I'm still suffering from jetlag it usually takes me a few days to recover, although Ruth is feeling better.

Dreamt last night of painting a landscape with negative painted trees, and a winter street scene. Must be time for me to paint this year's Christmas card.

Can't see us moving far today, although we did enjoy our walk around Southport yesterday. The morning fog is steadily burning off, but it looks cold and clammy out there.

Glad to see your ankle is on the way to recovery, Lyn - it has been a long job.

Off to peruse The Gallery now, BBL.

Morning Washers:

I am :envy: JJ, the first day of summer :envy: WE had a touch of snow overnight but we have been fortunate to have had a extremely mild autumn.

Just read about Scott handing over the realm. Good luck on your future endeavers Scott. May they all be as successful as Wet Canvas.

Welcome Kerri, and everything Jaytee^^^^ said .

Here is a question for all you computer techs out there. I opened my "inbox" this morning and received 598 e-mails. 99 % of which were mail that I had already received weeks ago. This is the 3rd time it has happened. I use one of my son's e-mail accounts "research haven" and it is not happening to him. I checked with Rogers and it is not them. Any ideas. ?????? I have deleted all my mail and deleted items and recycle bin 3 times now.

So if any of you have sent me an e-mail in the last little while and I have not responded it is because I may have missed it in delete frenzy :)

White light to Kev and Arnold.

Lyn, glad you are feeling better.

Pat. my goodness, you have been an early bird all week :)

 Doug, How was your trip???

Dave, those photos are awesome. I tried to see but does that bird have webbed feet or just huge feet.

 to Sylvia, Dominic, JJ, and Bob.

Charming one, I sent you a PM Monday. Maybe your inbox is full. ? (of all my delelted ones :D )

Must get moving BBL

Good Morning Everyone!!! There might be sun

Nothing to report except that I had a nice roast beef supper (senior menu) when I was out with my friend and Flo is coming over today. My friend thought the little prints were wonderful and took about 30 to show to her family :D

Yes, looks like Kev had his operation, I'm sure all went well

Lyn, I am really glad you are feeling perkier

Pat - :D

Sylvia, have fun at your art class. I am sure everyone will be full of praises for your painting!!!

Dominic - LOL

Dave - Beauties!!!!

JJ and JT - I am going to charge $ 12.50 for the prints. JT, are we going to see photos of all your acquisitions?

Doug, sounds like a nice painting you dreamed of and are going to paint  :D

Hi Doug. Thanks jaytee, Gail, & Uschi for commenting on photos. Yes, that bird does have huge feet - I think they're webbed, but I'm not 100% positive. It seems that the "pink-footed goose" is a UK bird, so this fellow is something else.

I'll add my thanks to Scott for creating, growing and running this marvelous community. And I join everyone else in welcoming Kerri.

Happy Thursday Morning YOU'ALL!! :D

Well, next week is the end of this semester then almost a whole month off before next semester. I've learned SSOOOO much from this professor in Life Drawing class. We all are mentally exhausted when we leave class. He pushes us without us even realizing it.

Creative Writing has been a blast and I'm taking another writing class next semester. Who knows maybe someday you'll see my name on a book!

I'm planning on painting some this weekend. BOTH on watercolor paper AND on my family room walls! :wink2: :D MUCH to accomplish BEFORE the Holidays. NEED to get some decorating done too. :o ;)

LOVE the daily pics Dave.

HAVE SO enjoyed ALL of the Christmasy pics too.

I absolutely adore the Christmas Holidays and family and ESPECIALLY all you "friends."

Hugs and white light going out to ALL our friends in the waiting room!!((()))

Have a GREAT day all...

Wow. Take a couple of days off, and what happens? WC CHANGES HANDS!! Whoda thunk it? Welcome Kerri, and Bon Voyage to Scott. I know how hard it is to let go of something you've created to move on to other things, but I can tell you that it's worth it. Good luck in all your endeavors.

WOOT! Look what I picked up from the framer's:

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Dec-2004/21440-Gillys_Dan0.jpg

This is Guilli's portrait of Dan. He sent it to us and I left it at the framer's before we went to Italy. Now it's on the wall as a part of my WC gallery!

I've been lurking for a few days, because I've been swamped since we got back. So I've missed a few things. But I've searched and searched and can't find anything about Barb. What's happened? How is she? And isn't it today that Arnold is having his surgery? And what about Kev? I HATE being out of touch.

Pat, you early bird, you. Welcome to the other part of the day! I personally love the early mornings. The air is fresh, the light is pure, and I generally haven't scr*wed up yet!!

Doug, welcome back. I know that you had a great time.

Dave, can I snag one of your close up pics??

Lyn, I'm glad to hear that your ankle is better. I'm counting the days till my stupid gall bladder comes out.

Uschi, I love your prints. What a great idea! Have you thought about making cards too?? (as if you don't have enough to do....)

Weaving to everyone who has been here and to AWAYTC.

I have to go and turn my studio back into the guest room, so our houseguests will have a place to sleep this weekend.

Wonder if Kev has had his op - hope it all went well.

Hiya Washers! I'm really late checking in today... it's been *one of those days* at work...

Last evening, Magoo and his best friend Dan participated in an *Improv Olympics* sponsored by all the highschools in our district... my Magoo, who appears to be quite extroverted, is really very shy... I was surprised (and secretly pleased) that he signed up for the project... He and Dan took second place!!!!! There were 60 teams of 2-4 students per team...

While Magoo was at Improv, I attended a watercolour class... I rarely paint anything worthwhile at class, but I think I just might have another Christmas Card!!

White light and good thoughts beaming to Kev, Barb and Arnold...

Best wishes to Scott... WC has had a huge impact on my life and my art... for this, I will always be grateful...

Warm welcome to Kerri... you have adopted a huge extended family of artists...

TMRT this afternoon... I'm sorry...

Gail... I didn't get your pm... My inbox is virtually empty...

Great pics today!! Gorgeous office, Pat!

Thinking of all of you... sending good thoughts your way...

Healing being sent to Arnold and Kev and Barb, may you all return to normal soon, I don't want to forget susan here too. If you remember, she had to go through a year of chemo.

Wishing I were down under with the washers who are having summer. this cold damp (damn) weather is the pitts on my arthrius in my hands, hard to type and to paint and draw., gotta run, bbl maybe.

Afternoon all,

Just made my cup of tea (Darjeeling) and thought I'd check what you've all been up to while I drink it.

Thinking of Kev, hope his operation went well and he is now recovering and beginning to heal. Special white light to him and Arnold for their operations.

More white light to all others who are recovering and on the road back to good health.

Pat,
Your office photos were impressive! Looks like a real professional business. Only one complaint—where are your watercolors on the wall???? Chinese posters are great, but surely you can fit one or two of your paintings somewhere.

Char, Congrats to Magoo! Way to go!

Ellen, It's a good thing you seem to have a fairly large home. I don't know where you would put all these wonderful decorations otherwise. Oh, I want your corner TV stand! :envy: I've been looking for one just like it for when we get a new TV.

Congratulations to you too Otter, 1000 posts!

Kate, The portrait of Dan really looks wonderful framed up like that. What a wonderful gift from Guilli!

JoAnn, Sounds like the Art League President and previous newsletter writer doesn't know how to let go of the reins. I'm sure you are doing a wonderful job which she should appreciate instead of denigrate. Hope you work things out with her.

Weaving to all others, CRS has set in.

Our final art class went well. The other members of the group liked my birds a lot, the only complaint they had was about the matting and framing. (I used one that was around the house on another painting instead of putting a new one on.) Looks like I'll have to go in and cut a creamy white 3" mat after the holidays. For now, the birds will stay as is. We had a tasty luncheon, I even got to enjoy some homemade pumpkin pie which I missed at Thanksgiving.

See you all tomorrow. I'm off for a quick check of the Gallery and then off to the kitchen to make dinner.

Gail, I used to have this problem whenever the server that sends me my email would "burp" and resend old messages. Deleting the emails from your desktop doesn’t delete them from the server itself, which is where the “burps” are happening.

You can set your mail reader to automatically delete your messages from the server once they have been downloaded to your desktop (or within a few days). This doesn’t delete them from your desktop, only from the server, so when the server “burps” it has nothing (or very little) to resend to you.

Debra

PS. Doug, it is just amazing how much your grandson and son look like you. I'll bet your own baby pic can be superimposed on Alexander's perfectly!

Good Evening All. I am always either very late to these threads, or very early. That's what happens when you work night shift.

I see lots of you are getting geared up for the holidays, shopping, wrapping, decorating. I got some lights up around the house today as well. I wish we would have snow, just for one weekend, then it could all melt and go away. LOL!

I am on a countdown to painting. I'll have nine days off starting the middle of next week. I am really looking forward to doing a couple more little portraits, working on skin tones, getting ya'll to critique for me ;)

Good thoughts go out to all who are not doing well. Let's hope that the new year will hold better things for everyone around the world!
