I was sent this Press Release by the CSPWC after having my Surfacing painting accepted to the Open Water 2004 exhibit. It's supposed to be sent out to the media so I thought I'd post it to my Wetcanvas friends. The other New Brunswick artist in the release is Ann Balch and her website is here:
Thanks for looking.

Two New Brunswick artists accepted in major national watercolour exhibition

On Saturday, December 4, 2004, the Canadian Society of
Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC) unveils Open Water
2004, its 79th annual open juried exhibition of select transparent watercolour.

The Etobicoke Civic Centre Art Gallery in Toronto
houses this year’s major exhibition.

Visual artists Ann Balch from Moncton with a painting
entitled Eye of the Beholder (29 ¾”w x 22”h), and David
Reeves from Quispamsis, with his painting, Surfacing
(22”w x 30”h), are two of the sixty-nine artists
accepted into the prestigious Canadian Open Water 2004
event. Entries this year came from Canada, the USA,
Malaysia and Holland.

The exhibition, juried by Marie Charbonneau, Ming Zhou
and Ernestine Tahedl, embraces seven artists from
British Columbia, nine from Alberta, thirty-eight from
Ontario, two from Québec and eleven from Atlantic
Canada. There is also one artist from Holland and one
from Malaysia. This exciting 79th annual showcase
presents stylistic compositions ranging from high
realism to loose abstraction to expressive surrealism.
The official gala opening and presentation of awards
will take place December 4th, 2 –5 pm.

Many of the artists will be present, and the exhibition
will be officially opened by Vincent J. Varga,
Executive Director and CEO of the McMichael Canadian
Art Collection and President of the McMichael

Etobicoke Civic Centre Art Gallery is located at 399
The West Mall at the corner of Burmanthorpe Road in
West Toronto where the exhibition continues until
January 27, 2005. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday
8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Weekends and Holidays: 2-5 pm.
Many of the art works are available for purchase. For collectors and enthusiasts, a full colour catalogue is available.

The Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour was
founded in 1925 out of the commitment to watercolour of
twelve influential artists, including Fred Brigden and
Group of Seven members Franklin Carmichael and A. J.
Casson. For the last 79 years, the Society has had a
mandate to encourage and nurture watercolour
excellence. As such, it is the only Society outside of
the British Isles represented in the Royal Collection
of her Majesty the Queen at Windsor Castle.
Exhibitions, symposiums and high calibre workshops are
the cornerstones of the organization. As well,
scholarships are made available to exceptional
watercolour students as part of the Society’s programme.

Ann is represented in New Brunswick by Gallery 78 in Fredericton and Fog Forest Gallery in Sackville; David’s work can be seen by appointment at his studio in Quispamsis.
