Never a dull moment around here!

8.00 pm and I am building teepee with Em and painting cards, and writing poem and the lights go out! Big bang. Then again... and again!!! Real loud. look out window and there are people all over. Go outside and there is northern lights! SOUTH of me! Huge explosions, one after the other, flames shooting about two hundred yards in the air...helicopters, fire trucks, sirens everything.

Big excitement, this explosions goes on for 45 minutes. Never saw anything like this. Brenda and daughter Heather (who came home for a few days) are out shopping.

Anyway, sky is filled with smoke, all the lights are out across town and the sirens keep coming from all directions. Brenda comes home panic stricken the streets are all jammed with cars!

About 11 the hydro comes on and I watch news: Propane plant at the lake has exploded. 500 people evacuated. I look out now and still lots of smoke!

Other than that, not much has happened. Except I got older!

Elaine will now pass out the cake.

and Thanks LULU!

Morning all! http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/10-Jun-2004/22284-good_morning.gif

Chris, how scary! I hope nobody was hurt. I heard that the real Northern lights will be visible in Scotland tonight - so near and yet so far! :crying:

Sylvia, yes! I am really hoping she decides the army isn't for her! The work experience scheme is well organised, the kids say the main things they're interested in and the school tries to find suitable placements. Amy chose the army. I think it's a great idea, at least this way they see the real world and not the romantic view of jobs. I wish I'd had the opportunity at 15 (I wouldn't have chosen the army!)

A dull start this morning, with a stiff breeze. More work planned on the backlit WIP later.

I'm attaching a photo I took yesterday of a golden tree against a grey sky, just because I thought it was pretty :D

Morning all

Happy Birthday Chris! :music:

Your birthday certainly started with a bang! Hope no one was hurt.

Frantic hoovering and tidying this morning before Ruth's sewing group arrive ;) Used to be a regular thing before our cleaner came

This evening it is the Ormskirk Artists meeting with a demonstration by local pastel artist Ron Bailey. We're in a new venue this evening - hope everyone finds it!

So I'll probably get a couple of hours painting in while the "sewers" are here - banished to my studio :D

At last we have fine weather after a few days of murk. Scheduled to get quite a bit colder though, with north winds.

Well, gotta go, hoovering to do. BBL

11-10-2004, 03:46 AM
Chris I hope all the nerves are calmer when you wake to read this. I'm sure there will be more news you will have for us regarding the explosion. You didn't mention anything about injury or deaths.

Have a wonderful day with the family and eat LOTS of cake and have a few vinos and come back feeling not a day over 28. :D

11-10-2004, 04:24 AM
Morning all........

Hope you have a wonderful day

Day off today, I have finally finished all my VAT and books for my old business, so hopefully i'll get some more of my portrait done.........Holiday shopping later, only 15 days to go and counting......have lost a bit of weight since starting this job, does have some advantages :) so i'm off to treat myself to a new bikini....

Not much else happening.......my sons are both away the last 3 days of my holiday, so I have to find someone to look after my 5 furbabies, any takers?

Hope everyone is well

Off to shower and paint........

11-10-2004, 05:10 AM
Happy Birthday Chris...

Hope no one hurt in fire, have a good one...

Happy Birthday, Chris!!

Kevin - urrrrkkkk, not what I wanted to see before breakfast ....

Chris - I hope no one was hurt in the explosion. That's a frightening event to have happen in your backyard!

Stephie - a new bikini !?!! I assume you'll be sharing pictures??

Not much happening around here. I do have the next two days off so I have a 4-day weekend! And naturally, I woke up today with a scratchy throat. Hopefully it won't develop into anything... Particularly because Jerry's Artarama is having the Art of the Carolinas 2004 tradeshow over the next 4 days. And I paid for a 3-hour workshop Friday morning. Should be good.

Well, I'm going to take a quick sprint through the Gallery and then get ready for work.

11-10-2004, 06:52 AM
Good Morning all,

It is quarter to seven here in chilly Ohio. Sky is beginning to lighten. Missed my chance to see the Northern Lights on Sunday. :crying: Saw a photo on the front page of the Dayton Daily News paper yesterday of them. Wish I had known, I would have gone out in the cold and watched them for sure.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHRIS! (Mr. Sandbanx) Hope your day is bright and cheery!

Scary events in your neighborhood last night. Hope it was all sound and fury signifying nothing when it comes to injuries an deaths.

Busy proofing the fifth grade math pages, also working on a new painting from a beautiful photo in the IL. Hope to put some more washes on it.

The roofers have begun putting shingles on the back part of the roof. The front is still covered with the old shingles which is good because there is rain in the forecast for tomorrow.

Hear my DH up walking about over my head so I'd best get the coffee on and the cereal poured.

Weaving to all who were here before me and to those yet to come.

Good afternoon my friends

Happy birthday CHRIS  !

Lol! Kev! It's you that dancing person on picture?

Hello Stephie ... lovely to see you again .-) btw nice picture in your "Icon photo"

Ruth. .. that photo is wanderful! I love gray sky specialy when foreground is light or in the sunlight.

Pat ... I see I missed somethink when I was away. I hope you are all right!

Jakeally? If you will be there, please how your holidays was going, do you have some photos. Btw. I have new haircut again ... and shorter again :-)

 to all friends there!

and sending regards from new office. :-) Still have all the things in boxes and at home too. We were digging through all house to build new heating and continue with all heating system to my future attic :-) We were unlucky as in the same moment temperature jumped down to zero. So imagine that all family was sleeping in one room around our giant TV, (because all other rooms were covered and in process of work) .. all in jumpers because heating was switched off, with all our animals and with boxes full of mum's orchideas from too cold greenhouse. :D :D Heating works now, I am back in my own bed and orchideas are back in warm greenhouse. I can sleep in peace of my room ... imagine all nights were those mad animals running from side to side and playing games. I loved them, but if they run across your face in 2 o'clock in the night, than at 3 and 3:30 and 4 ... I was half dead in the morning :D

Btw. ... this photo is from last saturday on Nizbor castle, where was "celtic day" with recreation of history as separated theatre scenes. We played celtic bards during Banquet scene.

Speaking of vacations, I heard from Marvin this evening.

He told me his plane was 3 hours late into Melbourne (http://www.visitvictoria.com/), because a man had a heart attack on board, and the flight was diverted to Perth first..

He also said Adeline accidently dropped his digi cam, so he has only his 35m film camera. No pics for us............. yet..............

He is having a ball, they went to the Art Centre of Victoria, said it was fabulous!! Went shopping, cloths for Adseliner, camera repair shop for Marvin. I think he was told camera could not be fixed for a reasonable price, cheaper to buy new one.. :( Then they went to the Botanic Garden, Yarra River, St kilda Pier ect. They are going to Great Ocean Road tomorrow..

I have been burning my photos' onto CD's, just in case my 'puta ever crashes.. Looking for painting ref. Didn't paiunt today as I was waiting for Julie to turn up. I looked at a few photos' but didn't want to start and then have to stop again. Julie didn't turn up. **sigh** :(

Well it is nearly my bedtime.. 11.35pm already..

See ya in the morning..;)

11-10-2004, 10:06 AM
Hi everyone... popping in for a few minutes... between meetings... the weatherman promised some warm air, but it hasn't happened yet... I'm working from the top floor of our building today... I can honestly attest to the fact that heat rises... it's like a sauna up here... *sweating icon* needed... :D

Following EuropaMunroe's breathey rendition, I'm not sure I can do :music: Happy Birthday :music: to Chris much justice... BUT... Many happy returns anyway... somehow I feel that you'll have a blast today!!! (I really didn't intend that pun)...

11-10-2004, 02:15 PM
Hi there, Wednesday again, which means Market day. Got a ride up the hill with my trolley and loaded it up with fruit and veg and one or two other things. It was sunny and COLD today, and windy. I took the hint and bought a furry scarf from the Hat man and went ahead and got a Knaresborough hat from the Information center.
Came home via the Castle steps (not easy with the trolley) but the quickest way, since needed to stop by the Marigold to take pictures. I have been "assigned" this task, as Jack cannot do it with the schedule he is on, and that is what he like to do. The workers all know me by now.
By the way, could some Brit please explain to me what exactly a JOINER is? I think I know, but have been wrong before.
I added a bit of white to the windows on my painting. I does look a bit better, but the windows are kind of like that.
DH is home, gotta go

11-10-2004, 02:35 PM
Well I have always known a joiner to be another name for a carpenter!

mr sandbanx
11-10-2004, 04:28 PM
I believe a Joiner is a carpenter who basically does interior work.

For all those who read the Kev n' Chris Poetry n' Painting thing, each Thursday:

This week we will be posting Friday! I am too lazy to do all this on my birthday and the girls have big plans for me tonight... also, I understand the site will be down for part of the time on Thursday and this could get muddled up. Kevin has agreed to this... and we both could tune up our poems for sure, since we require a deuce of poems and paintings.. So don't hang about all day waiting, make yourself busy and we will see you on Friday bright and early (My time... not Kevin's).

11-10-2004, 04:29 PM
A joiner is a tradesman like a bricklayer or plasterer. He works with wood. Makes windows, doors, floorboards, roof joists etc. Everything structural with wood in house building. He joins things.

A carpenter is different, he makes chairs, tables, cabinets etc, much more specialised than a joiner, still working in wood but he makes things.

11-10-2004, 05:11 PM
OMG: (Gosh) I am up to 99 drawings since May, thats 62 since July 18th when I starded water colour, has it really been this short a time... OK well only another 150 to go... target is 250 now...

11-10-2004, 05:12 PM
:music: Happy Birthday Mr. Sandbanx, Happy Birthday to You!! :music:

(there are a lot of weird birthday greetings out there but this is the only one featuring a Canadian dog! I assume those other dogs are saying "Happy Birthday" but if they're not keepin' it clean, my apologies!)

11-10-2004, 05:12 PM
Hey JJ and Patty and everyone else! Just got home from having my heart cath and the results are: NO heart disease or blockages. Yipee now I can paint with a happy heart. (no pun intended). Just wanted to share the good news. Think I will go rest for a while.

11-10-2004, 05:44 PM

11-10-2004, 05:47 PM
Great news, Bart!

Doug, must be just you, mine is fine!

11-10-2004, 05:52 PM
Great news Bart!!!!! yeahhhhhhhhh!!!   I was wondering what you had found out....can't be any better than that! Yes, now lets see some more paintings!!

Yup Doug!! I have the same problem. I noticed earlier my screen went wide and I had to scroll way to the right to see the whole page. If you go to Stephie's sig line and click on it or go over it...it seems to do that for some reason. Her sig line looks wide screen.
