Warm greetings everyone;
Through the gentle but warm suggestions from Auntie_Chaos, I have changed forums and will begin posting my art in here. So to commence, here is "No Ugly Duckling", a mixed-media painting done on an 8" X 10" Illustration board.
Silly sentimental man that I am - I can never look at a magnificent and graceful swan without being reminded of my 'childhood' memory of the fable of the "The Ugly Duckling", and it places me in mind of 'people', some of whom - through no fault of their own -were born perhaps less attractive than movie stars. Yet inside, their heart's and mind's are more beautiful than any surface source of comeliness.
Your comments will be received with much appreciation - thank-you Jason
WoWee! Racin-Jason, this is sure No Ugly Duckling! It's beautiful!
Welcome to Wetc:clap: :clap:

Hi there Lulu;
Neither your appearance, nor heart, nor warm words of welcome originate from the 'ugly duckling' senario, but from the emotion and warm thoughts of the 'beauty and grace of the 'swan'.
My sincerest thanks for your comments
With much respect

My dearest friend Auntie_Chaos;
Once again, and as usual - your words teach my heart a new and joyful melody - oh that I could paint with brush - that which you paint from within your heart.
My best to you and all your family
With deep affection

Greetings Wendee;
I am honored by both your kind response, and by your warmth of welcome. I think within the 'Cafe' I shall find what I've sought for a very long time - exchanges of our united passions in art, and the sharing of vision, depth, wisdom and serenity of soul.
Thank-you for sharing that which makes you - YOU!
With great respect

:cat: Thank-you Gisela, that was truly a beautiful comment to make...kind of took my breath away!
To be welcomed with such warmth and acceptance is an honor indeed - more so when made by the 'moderator' of the forum. Thank-you sincerely, oh and did I mention to start breathing again? :rolleyes: :clap: :cat:

Hi there Leaflin;
Swans are such magnificent and graceful creatures, that I often think of them as all female in gender. That's not a sexist thought by the way, but a simple observation based on their grace, beauty and gentle countenance. Many thanks for your kindness.

Animal - hey, you found me!
We're simply going to have to stop meeting like this or people will start gossiping...lol:evil: :D
Don't you just love swans? but gee, you're fortunate to have seen a black one...I never did! I got to see a pink one and...oh wait, that was a flamingo...or was it an elephant? Darn memory!
Thanks so much Animal for your wonderful and uplifting comment.

Welcome to WC and don't worry we don't gossip! Your swan is a truly magnificent beast only to be compared to your gift of prose? Might I ask what media did you mix to achieve this wonderful result?

Hi MissMouse;
Ohhh, goooood, I'm so glad this isn't 'gossip corner', you see, in another forum, there was this....oh wait, that's gossip...never mind!
Thanks for your comment MissMouse who I think liked the 'prouse', also for the warm welcome. In answer to your question, all of my paintings are mixed-media, consisting of, (are you ready?) oils, acrylics, watercolors, gouache, lacquors, pencil crayons, inks, dyes and pastels.
Over the years MissMouse, I have discovered that each of the above mediums have their own plus and minus qualities, so I began to develop a method of utilizing the best features from each, and working in layers separated by an application of Krylon matt plastic spray. This allowed me to use mediums normally incompatible, and produced a vibrancy not achievable by any other single medium or method I've ever encountered.
Again, thanks for taking time to add your words.

Hi there Reynolds;
I'm not sure if I would call the post a 'blessing', but I sure appreciate both your kind words and faith in my renderings. If you like Reynolds, look up my profile for my home e-mail address, drop me a line with yours, and I'll happily send you a larger image of the painting which will show up the feather detail much clearer, but of course, only if such offer appeals to you.
And yes, it truly is a 'Labrynth' of a Site, I've never in my life seen so many various forums in which to meet such a wonderful variety of other gifted artists. Thanks again.

Well jason you know I am a big fan...the work on the swan is fantastic.... I really like it's connection or lack of to the water... it's like a as they spread their wings... they lift themselves out of the water.... reminds me in a strange way of an abstract I did called "A Sunday in Stratford" I'll send you the image... so glad your here my friend... I am humbled by your work....

Jan-Michael - my special friend;
You may indeed be a fan, but no more so than I of you and the highly original, and refreshing work you do. Glad you like "Duckling", and I look forward eagerly to seeing "A Sunday in Stratford". You know exactly how I feel about art and those who render, none are better nor worse than another. We all voyage a life-long road of experience, learning, experimenting, with each juncture permeated with trial and error. Thank-you so much for your union of journey.
Jason:
We sure are enjoying having you at WetCanvas!.
I've noticed that you are posting images of your art work here in the Cafe. Actually, the Cafe is set up for small talk and our other forums are made to handle images of our work. If you do not want a critique of your work, may I suggest that you use one of the medium specific forums. Check out the watercolor forum, you will see what I mean.
Soon we will have a new forum added that will be called Show and Tell. This forum would probably be a great place for you to post your works as well.
Of course the Cafe is a place where you can talk about most anything, but for the sake of housekeeping and our format, perhaps the best thing to do would be to post according to your medium or subject.
Absolutely wonderful work, btw.
I'll close this thread for now and reopen it in the new forum "Show and Tell" as soon as it opens. In the meantime, do check out the other forums and do come back to the cafe for just general fun and the social aspect of WetCanvas!.
THREAD OPEN ED ----- FOR THE GRAND OPENING OF SHOW AND TELL!!!! :D
Oh my goodness. I did a swan but doesn't come close to this one. This is just beautiful *S* (as usual)
aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Jason, The swan is Gorgeous!!! I could see how beautiful the colors were even as the file started opening up. I can't say enough about the color work.
Did you post this in the animal and wildlife forum? If not, you definetly should. You would get great feedback there.
