Morning all

Judy - you got a lens hood on your camera? You seem to get some vignetting at the corners.

A dull grey morning here - just noticed most of the leaves have gone from my false acacia tree - suddenly it's like winter :(

Did I tell you about the scrape I had in September when a bus tried to squeeze past me on a narrow bridge? Well both passengers and the driver have claimed damages for WHIPLASH! Thank goodness I decided to report it to my insurers and that I had my camera with me at the time.

Did absolutely nothing yesterday, except write letters to the insurance company and solicitors, so for my sins I have to go to the supermarket this morning.

Off for brekky now, BBL,

Doug

Good Morning,
Well this should make your day, I just read where scientists estimate that you are never more than 3 feet away from a spider at any given time. I believe it, I shared my shower with one this morning.

Good morning friends!

I really want to be asleep but I have tests to correct, so...

JJ - more beautiful pictures! I get that 'vignette' effect all the time. Mine is usually caused by forgetting to get my fingers out of the way! :o

Doug - just looked at your photos from Herefordshire... fabulous! And aren't lawyers wonderful! It sounds like some lawyer talked to these people and convinced them to 'give it a go, we might get a settlement'.

Judy - great, spiders, I just love spiders. Had one racing to the attack across my desk yesterday morning!

Chris - first your daughter and now this!!? When will the madness end?!?

Good Morning all,

It is almost 7:00 a.m. here in Oakwood. The sky is gray and cloudy outside my window. It looks cold. Br-r-r-r-r.

JJ, This is the easy way to take a tour of London. Glad Henry is there to provide the names of the places for you, although even I recognized the Royal Courts of Justice, LOL! One tip I remember from a photo book I read a long time ago for future travels was to take a photo of a sign with the name of the town or place you were visiting before you took places of interest. That way, when the film was developed, you would have the info right there with the rest of the pictures.

Spent a lot of time this morning getting photos ready to send off to my son and DIL of the boys on their last visit. I STILL haven't learned the ins and outs of the software that came with the camera so I'm probably taking 10x as long to do stuff like this than is really necessary. The problem is that the instruction manual is electronic instead of a physical book that I can turn pages back and forth til I get it. I HATE ELECTRONIC MANUALS!

Mundane Sunday planned. Grocery shopping this morning, reading the paper, packaging up my proofread pages to send out first thing tomorrow, maybe putting the finishing touches on my bird painting, etc., etc. Yawn!

Char, Looking forward to seeing you next week. We'll have to see which day is your lightest work schedule and see if we can get together. Don't know if Anita will be able to join us too since she is now working.

Anita, It was good to read that you had taken the bull by the horns and spoken to the section leader. Glad that things seem to be making more sense now. I predict you are going to wind up enjoying your new job—eventually. LOL!! :wink2:

Doug, What a mess. I'm glad you acted promptly with the camera and notifying your insurance company. What is so bad is all this time you have to take to respond to these allegations. Wish you could charge them for it and get some $$$ back for your trouble.

There was a big insurance scam here in the States a few years ago that one of the investigative TV programs showed. A lot of people were getting "injured" in accidents having to do with public transportation. So, the insurance companies (or maybe it was the police) set up hidden cameras and somehow they caught one of these "accidents" as it happened. I remember there was a bus involved with 2 or 3 passengers on it and the driver. After the "collision" with a car, all of a sudden, people appeared from nowhere and got ON the bus so they could claim whiplash injuries. Not only the drivers of the bus and car were involved and the fake passengers, but also the shyster doctors who certified the bogus passengers were injured and the shyster lawyers who represented them. Guess who pays higher insurance rates because of nonsense like this—all the rest of us who are honest and never make claims.

Bob, Please don't let Chris lead you astray—get that poor kitty out of the dryer! Hope you finished grading all those papers. Not the most exciting job in the world, I know, but a necessary one nonetheless.

Judy, That is one scientific fact I really didn't NEED to KNOW! I hate spiders unless they are weaving some wonderful web somewhere I can see but not have to worry about.

Weaving Hi  to Kat and Chris and AWAYTC!

Off to check out the Gallery quickly.

Sylvia

At least they are chasing the ants away.. **sigh**

Good morning everyone.

This will a day of R & R, I hope. Didn't sleep very long or well. That's probably because yesterday I decided to thin out the mass of ivy growing on the side of the house. I have asthma, and must have inhaled lots of dust, pollen (and probably spiders too) because I've been wheezing and coughing and trying to catch my breath since then. I usually wear a mask when doing yard work, but couldn't find one yesterday.

A couple of days ago my wife took the dogs out for a walk around the neighborhood. She called to tell me to bring my camera. Right there in the middle of suburbia was this guy. We believe he's a Red-Tailed Hawk. Unfortunately, the picture quality isn't great, because he was so high up in a tree that I was at maximum zoom - into the digital zoom mode, which results in less sharp photos. Anyway, here are 2 shots:

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/07-Nov-2004/23514-674F_crop-02.jpg http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/07-Nov-2004/23514-MVC-666F.JPG

And two more of my attempts at Macro mode. I must have taken 15 photos like these, and only 3 were worth keeping. Lots of problems with focus. Auto-focus mode kept blurring the flower and making the leaves behind it sharp. And I'm not good enough yet to do well with manual focus in ultra close-ups.

Morning everyone
I've been so busy I haven't had time to even read the wash every day. I finished another painting for class and decided to give it to a co-worker for the Xmas gift exchange for work. Another present out of the way :D Today I am dashing out the door to pick up my sister to start the Xmas baking. I made the fudge last night and today is the day for the most difficult type of cookie that takes the two of us all day to do. I want to get all the baking done by the middle of the month so I can start decorating. I woke up to about 4" of snow this morning and it is still coming down. That should get us in the mood for the Xmas baking! Gotta dash as I am running late.
 to everyone.

Good morning Washers! I awoke to the most gorgeous sunrise... JJ, remember when you, Alan and Magoo tried to capture the colour? Here it is for you!

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/07-Nov-2004/20514-LMSunrise.jpg

Not too much happening in our household today... I need to finish up the laundry and I never did get groceries yesterday (so... that's on today's list).

Ted and Magoo did most of our yardwork while I was out getting my hair cut yesterday, so I don't have that to do either... They are just the best... :D

I finally finished my Morning Gories painting, so I've got something in mind for my Christmas Cards that I want to sketch out today... I probably won't get too much done on it, especially since I have to be in Chicago all next week...

G'mornin to Chris and Kat... who are probably still sleeping! :D

Sorry to read about your car/scrape/bus/passengers/injuries?? problems Doug! :( In Ontario, we have *No fault* insurance, so the bulk of these kinds of scams/claims are eliminated... Many times, the innocent and good drivers are penalized (insurance wise), but we really don't get too much of this type of thing... Actually, *No fault* was theoretically supposed to reduce insurance costs, but it never happened...

Judy... when I worked in Mexico, the tarantula's would all race indoors if it rained... Most of them weren't too big, but we did have our share of saucer-sized vermin...

Bob... poor *Fluffy*... :cat:

Hi Henry... getting some flats??? hmmmmm.... :D

Cool tip about taking Photos, Syl... I'm thinking that Tuesday the 16th might be my easiest day... will let you know for sure...

G'mornin JoAnn...

Dave... he does, indeed, look like a red-tailed hawk... They're quite prolific up here and a sight to behold... Beautiful pics this morning!

Hi Ellen... I can smell the cinammon all the way down here! Have fun today and keep your fingers out of the cookie dough! Ok... a little taste... :D

Good morning Jackie... glad you popped in for a visit...

My guys are still sleeping... I popped a breakfast quiche in the oven this morning for them, but, they may have to eat it cold...

Sending positive vibes and good thoughts to all...

HI EVERYONE

Nice Sunday morning here. DH has been out of town on business & got home yesterday. Nice to have some relaxing time together. Went out for breakfast. Now he's trying to read the Sunday paper with Tilly the beagle who is taking her paws & moving the paper so she can sit in his lap.

JJ- Yes while you were out having the time of your life I started to look for another job. Don't get me wrong I loved my Alzheimer patients. But the job had a lot of negatives too. I had to work 2nd shift. Was working 10-12 hours when I went in. Didn't have a supervisor 95% of the time. It was also physically, mentally taking a toll too. Don't know how to explain it but when you work with the very elderly & thats where you spend most of your time it can get to you. I was starting to feel like I was smothering. SOOOO ... I saw an ad & applied. The new job is at our local Air Force Base Hospital. It is very different for me. My new job is in what is called the Referral Management Center. Since the AF has downsized the hospital & they are also now seeing those over 65 they are overwhelmed by the chronic illness & the care for the elderly. What specialists can be seen at the base they are seeing but they also have to send off base for care/tests/ etc. Part of my new job will be getting these referrals/consults set up, getting the infor to the patients & getting the results back to the Docs. I'm learning as I go. There is 1 RN, 2 LPNs & 4 administrative in our office. Hey for the first time in my life I have my own office.

PS: I need artwork for my walls. Anyone wanna help. Guess I will have to start painting lots more.

On my agenda today is to clean house, run some info on hip replacement surgery to a friend. Plan out Christmas presents.

OK will check back later

Good morning!!! Now I see why people like to START the Wash!!! Then they don't have to remember so much!

First of all....FANTASTIC PICS in the Wash today...all the London ones..makes me feel like I have been there now..thanks JJ. The red tailed hawk close-up on that branch is great,Dave!!! Also the flowers....and CharM that sunrise is unreal!!! Was it really that yellow??

Nice to see you Jackie...sorry I had already gone to sleep by the time you got to the "funny farm" thread last night. :wink2: Some of you people stay up reaalllyyyyy late!!

Just put some finishing touches or some touches of doom on a painting I worked on all day yesterday. I will post it soon as the paint dries.

Sister Debbi and her three daughters are in town today. They are here to surprise her son as he is in some kind of college boat race today... the kind of boat where there are 3 or 4 guys rowing...I don't know what it's called. Anyway we are all going to surprise him. She lives in Missouri. He goes to college in Missouri but his dad lives in Kansas..long story.

Have a great day!

Sad day in Orangeland as tennessee lost to Notre Dame...

But, our Badgers won again and are 9-0 so there is a silver lining.

Bob I see nothing wrong with cats in the dryer. Makes them nice and fluffy I do it all the time. Bet someone swipes that photo and it shows up in the gallery soon.

Spritey: .. the kind of boat where there are 3 or 4 guys rowing...

It's called the "Five man rowboat race where the guy in the back, Malty most often, is reading a magazine when he should be rowing"

Seeya, off to church...

...yeah, about the kitten...that fair game? It says "ap photo" in the corner but I would use a different background (wouldn't want to alarm folks, y'know.)

Char, Dave and JJ, great pics as well!

George Harrison on the radio making a racket, some kind of Indian sounding thing, that's one way to wake up I guess.

Trying to pull myself together for church, don't know how anyone even gets to the early service. I'll go get some caffeine and maybe some ice cream. Talk to y'all later, Kim

Hi all,
Im a lurker here, can't remember all the names yet so I will just share with you. Dave I live in Torrance, Ca not far from you and we have a mating pair of those hawks I see them out on the wire all the time. The good part is the crows have departed the area, and Im glad of that. I will try to get a picture for you. Oh by the way I love all the pictures shared in the wash.

Taking a quick break from grading tests ... only 2 more classes to go ... a couple of real disappointing results ... :( I have to think of a way to give a few kids a chance to recover .

To clarify the pic of the kitty ... I swiped it off cnn.com. So it is a copyrighted AP picture. The poor kit actually took a couple turns around in the dryer before the owner realized it was missing!

Great sunrise, Char. (And your little typo sent me off into hilarity... "Morning Gories" ??!! ) :D :D  I had to rush to the Gallery to see what was there. BEAUTIFUL!!! STUNNING!!!

Dave - several years ago, still living in MA, we had a very snowy, cold winter. I had a large platform feeder on the deck railing. We had a huge flock of evening grosbeaks every day (usually doesn't come that far south). On three or four occasions, a hawk attacked the feeder. Just slammed into it at full power dive speed, trying to grab a grosbeak for lunch! Unbelievable. They missed everytime and we were treated to the sight of a beautiful bird of prey , sitting on our deck, preening and trying it's damdest to look like it had planned to miss all along. Way cool...

Morning washeroos, 9:30 AM here, very overcast but at least not raining. We felt that we wanted a video or two to watch last night so I got on my skooter and DH and I started walking to the store. It had been sogging off and on all day so I took my big bright red camping poncho and my umbrella just in case......... well the skies decided to open up. Sure glad DH was wearing his waterproof jacket and hat or we would have been soaked. Quite an adventure. So we watched two movies and ate popcorn last night, eergh, sure didn't need the popcorn. Watched "Brother Bear" and "the day after tomorrow" both pretty good movies so I didn't get any painting done yesterday. Maybe today I can wet my brush.

Need to find out if the meat market in Sylvana is open today so I can order our turkey or ham. They do their own dry curing and smoking the old fashioned way. YUM<YUM.

Hi again, the cat in the dryer reminded me of our time in the Azores. My high school aged son ambled (as only they can at that age) in to the kitchen tossed something in the dryer, turned it on then started to leave. Suddenly he runs to the dryer and opens the door, at which time our cat jumped out on three feet. One foot was caught in her flea collar. Maybe she was hunting spider?
I have been painting today, adding a coat of gloss white to the dado rails that will go into the bathroom. But begin turning blue front doors into brown ones on a painting of son and DIL's house in Charlotte.
Did talk to my very odd mother. She just ordered the large print edition of Readers Digest to be sent to my Grandparents, this should be interesting, mom is almost 95, Grandparents have been gone for a LOOOOOOONNNNG time now. But she is convinced that God is sending people back, she read it in the paper. Wish she had save that item.

And the game you're referring to on a round field is called 'Aussie Rules', you might have to ask JJ more. It's really is the wierdest game and I don't understand it at all but you want to see the kit they wear. Evnin` all,

Just poppin` in to say hello.

I`ve had the builders in all week and next week looks no different

The conservatory , front door and bay windows will all be done by Wednesday at the latest  It seems like it`s been going on forever, we`ve been having to wait for the foundations and concrete etc drying out.

Anyway, I won`t bore you with all that too much :wink2: I`ve been taking photos so I`ll show them altogether soon.

Went to a good bonfire party on Friday at one of my friends house.
I got some very good photos of the fire and fireworks...............I may use them for one of our challenges one week

Anyway hugs to all, I hope your all fit and healthy, take care and "I`ll be back" said in my best terminator voice. :wink2:

Back from soccer game, internet connection is sporadic, so I'm typing fast.

Fabulous sunrise Char.

There's something very compelling to me about birds of prey.

Thanks Kathy & Chris (and apologies because I know I'm forgetting to mention some folks) re newest Vinca macro pics.

I sold some calendars today. Quite a surprise.

Gotta run.

From Elaine.......And the game you're referring to on a round field is called 'Aussie Rules', you might have to ask JJ more. It's really is the wierdest game and I don't understand it at all but you want to see the kit they wear. Sleeveless shirts and the tightest tiniest shorts any man would want to wear on a field. lol

Geesh don't ask me. :o I know nothing about football kina sports.. :o
How did the shopping go..:)

Cool Anita, sounds like this job is made for you. Enjoy!! :)

Woo-Hoo Dave ...No suprise to me

I gotta run, make an appointment for Alan to see Dr about his knee, get repeat scritps ect.

Trying to wake up **yawn** It is nearly 9.30am here, and the sun is shining today!! Well trying to..
