WOW Deidre, that is truly dedication. Migraine and still you participate in the WDE you get 10 claps just for that.

I love what you are doing with the little castle. It is so HUGE. And the colors you are using are just wonderful.

I will be checking back to see how you are doing and I hope your head feels better but from the looks of this painting you don't seem to let it bother you. Great job.

REally nice, Deirdre. I just looked at Christine's and you both used different palettes which is interesting. I see you print the reference out really big. Wish I could do that. :envy: I always have to work from the computer.

Thanks Kathy...Yes, I do print it out on A4...it helps to match the colours, as i think they are darker if it's smaller.

  ohhhhhh its really beautiful..altho I expect that from you now!

I print out a copy of the reference too but mine is always slightly pixalated (is that the word and if it is I bet I misspelled it :p ) I dont mind tho it helps me invent what I want :D

Hi Deirdre - Glad to hear you're feeling better - I was about to say that it must be a true addiction to this place - working and a migraine = tough cookie :D

I am pleased I didn't check this out before posting mine or else I mightn't have bothered and there was me saying people usually do small - you go and do the size I normally do lol! I'm going to start calling you Contrary Mary!
Love your pallette for the water. Kathy says we have different pallettes - I'm not so sure, I kept the water lighter though with the greens on the lighter side although there is hooker green in there somewhere. Do you spray your pastels with anything - I use cheap hairspray and I wonder if I put too much on? I can easily go over for the highlights which on yours are wonderful.
Those rocks rock!

WOW!   Wonderful stone on the tower, and the river/reflections are amazing!

Deirdre, I consider myself lucky as I only have occasional migraines, and while they're debilitating (loss of vision mostly, the most frustrating symptom for an artist!), I can usually recover within a few hours.

Thank you Ruth....If I don't catch mine in the fortification stage...they last all day, occas., 2! I was lucky today....it went around 5pm! Another update..........

It's lovely........can't wait to see the end result. And my hat is off to you...I too suffer from migranes and know what a pain in the butt (and head) they can be to just mess up your plans. Good for you that you are through it and continuing on!

Valri

PS please post the finished one. I love the brightness of what you have done so far!

Thank you Valri & Romell! I just spotted that my tower was too short. luckily I'd made the reflection too long so they balanced out!
Just about at the last update now...

Ooops! We must have Cross-posted! I didn't see it earlier! Honest! :o
I haven't sprayed mine yet! But I will. :D
If mine are getting too messy I usually knock them back (just the edges) with a fine paintbrush then redo! It happens a lot! :(
I like the deeper green for the deeper water...it seems right to me, because even if you had a light bottom only the water near the edge would be light...if you see what I mean....oops! I didn't mean if you had a light bottom....I meant the lake! :o

11-06-2004, 09:34 PM
Well I know *I* wouldn't complain if it was suggested I had a "light bottom" !!!! (Having looked at my bottom, that's not likely to become an issue  )

Good heavens, deirdre, this is really stunning !! Such incredibly rich colours, great drawing job, and beautiful vision to give this such life !!!
And I'm amazed at how much you got done in the short time before the first posting !!!
If I was you, I'd be all puffed up with pleasure having created this- one of yours that I like the best !!!

Oh, yes, I like everything about this. And there is so much detail and the different colors in everything show how much you have put into this. I could look at this for a long, long time - as in putting it on my wall.

Imortal is Scott's way of saying "hey, dude...you talk too much!" :D It's like the story of Methuselah in the Bible. His story is one sentence--that he lived for 900 years--the irony is that in that entire time he is mentioned only ONCE in the Bible--never acomplishing anything--GAD! That's depressing--but then--I talk too much! :D

Dee, I know you are doing some sort of guest lecture for us but I would love for you to, at some point, consider doing a pastel demo for the class at the lecture hall. Again, lovely work.

ps--i am still trying to decide and here it is 11:00pm--I think I am going for Popeye.

D - I still find it hard when I look at your work especially this one to realise that it is pastels. It is so crystal clear you have to be commended.
(I'm being restrained with the clappies as I saw it slowed things down in the WDE participants please read thread).
Thank you for replying about the fixative - do you use the special stuff or is it hairspray.
Thanks

Christine, Thanks, I use the special stuff....but HAVE been known to use hairspray! I'm so clumsy with my pastels that if I didn't I'd surely get most of it on me!
