The Continental Divide runs along the crests of the Rocky Mountains from Canada to Mexico, literally dividing the waters of the North American Continent. Montana is known as the headwaters state because much of the water which flows to the rest of the nation comes from the mountains of Montana. Two of the nation's major river systems, the Missouri and Columbia, are born high in the Rocky Mountains of Montana.

Driving here from a larger city is also a fun way to do it beacuse the area is so beautiful:

From Salt Lake or Denver, you can go through Grand Tetons and Yellowstone
From Seattle, you can see Mt Hood, Mt Rainier, the Cascades
From Calgary, ALBERTA, Canada, you can go through Crownest Pass
(just some examples)

AMTRAK 's EMPIRE BUILDER from Chicago to Seattle stops right here in WHITEFISH.....an interesting and beautiful choice

Pam, if you could just make it a little sooner . . . . we'll be in Great Falls Dec. 18 & 19 - well, kinda. Just for a birthday party. Flying in Friday night, out at noon Sunday.

Still hoping we can make the get-together . . . but the time of the month couldn't be worse for us for getting the newspaper done. We'll try, tho! :D

A lot of things to work out but it would be wonderful if we could both make it.

WOOT!

You all know you need to contact Larry and Rich individually if you plan to take their workshops????

hopefulbucky
11-30-2004, 05:12 PM
Guess I didn't realize that but then I hadn't seen that you had updated the check here site. Do you know if it is possible for the artists to place on their web site or somewhere what type of workshop it will be, for how long, cost, etc. all the info that one would need to make a decision on how many of the workshops to participate in and if this would be possible time wise etc. Or should we just wait until later.

Nother question, how close to the time of the gathering would we have to register for the workshops or the gathering?

Thanks for your help, maybe other need to know this info as well which is why I wrote a general post rather than a PM.

Thanks Pam

pampe
12-01-2004, 12:09 PM
Thanks, Judy, for asking

It is still so far away :wink2:

I think we need to wait a while....Larry will only be there for the weekend....so you can be sure, of that time....

You might PM either of them....ask what they might have in mind.

My sense as of now is that I will have an official Reception" the first evening here. People can decide what they want to do for the week or however long they stay.

I plan to have a daily "critique and wine tasting" in the afternoon.....

Lodging and meals on your own or as small groups....but it would be good if I have people's arrangements....I can help with distances and keep it organized .

what else?

hopefulbucky
12-01-2004, 12:14 PM
Thanks for the info. I just wanted to get an idea of what was going to be presented in the workshops, length of workshops, all the nitty gritty so I could make a decision. But you are correct it is a long time away and I can't even think about it now with the holidays. But I will after the first of the year e-mail each one and see if they have something in mind so I can make my decisions. Thanks for the info.

I would love to see a get together in the bay area also. There are a lot of artists that live in that area, and I am darn near a native of that area after 21 years of living in San Francisco, Oakland, Fremont, San Jose an Marin (in Mill valley). I am out that way for a visit at least once a year.

Anyone form oregon want to caravan together??

I'm bumping this thread back up to the top (Pam, maybe it should be moved to the WC Events forum -- I have a hell of a time finding it when I want it!) to say I'm planning on being there, with, of course, Beau, the Wonder Cocker. Can't say yet whether I'll stay the whole week or not, but probably a good bit of the time. Is there a timetable for the workshops and other cool events yet?

Hi!.....

to all of you!

Sept. WOW!!!!!

(This gathering is planned for the month of our 34TH anniversary, which we have been spending in Mexico for the last number of years. We both love Mexico, but are also thinking that this would, or could ,be an interesting adventure as well?!

I , as well, as my husband, are now thinking that we could also do something, entirely,,,unusual,.... (for, US ,,, the "OLD FOLKS" as our children, "NOW see us"????!!!),,,, and also discover,,,,,,,"Wetcanvas",.... ,,
since the gathering will take place in an area that we have not seen, for a very long time.

What are the dates again? ????

I would love to be there ( and my husband , also, seems like he is willing to take an adventure),( and for those that we will be dragging behind???? )....(like husbands???)....
that are willing to travel, or wife's that are not into our hobbies,,,, ....??????

For those that are not,,,just sitting around, painting ,,,??? ......??????

What is the entertainment?
Bars? Casino's etc....???? (THAT WILL BE CLOSE BY, LODGING???? ....)

Where is the lodging??? Camp sites?
For those of us that have four legged CHILDREN, (now days), that JUST cannot be left behind, LODGING available?????

(

We also would like to know, more about the workshops, times and etc.????

Hi Pam,
Sounds like a wonderful gathering! I would love to come and take a workshop or 2 but it is during school (one teen left at home) and then there is hubby - although it sounds like there is lots to do and I know he would have a fabulous time. Perhaps I can put grama to work babysitting - although hubby may have new contract to work on which wouldn't bode well for me for the trip.

At any rate my question is this - and it is a dumb one - how do you "bookmark" a thread??? I always see people saying that but don't know how to do it. I could add it to my favorites but they are already unmanageable - is that what they mean???? Help???? I want to book mark this one!!!

I'm getting exicted too! My grown children live in Kalispell. My daughter will be taking the Diana Pontings workshop along with me. I will only be there for a few days, and need to take time to see my son, also. So Pam's wine night and the workshop is all I will be able to fit in. What time and where is Pam's get together? I'll be staying at my daughter's in Kalispell. Wish I had more time, would love to try some plein air.

Nice work Chris! ...and welcome to WC. My favourite would have to be "I'm Crabby" and I love the title also. Florida is a good distance to come from ......perhaps we will have one out your way one year.......all that sunshine!! I could go for that.

In the meantime, I am getting fairly excited about this one coming up. My husband who does not like to travel AT ALL decided to come with me??? But I have solved the problem of this extra body.....I am leaving him to visit in Cranbrook for my duration. Whew, thank goodness...who wants to babysit a husband at an art event.....even one as great as mine!! :p . We can then continue one for a bit of a holiday so I am looking up great things to visit as we make our way across to Washington.

Sorry to be so late replying, I was out of town and returned to a crashed hard drive. I still am hoping to make the gathering and am excited about meeting everyone. I'll be there Friday, but will be leaving late Saturday or Sunday.

The forest service actually ended up sending me to Kalispell this summer! I'll be there for the weekend for sure, and I'm hoping to get monday and tuesday off as well so I can go to Rich William's workshop. I'll have to see how the work is going by September...

To date there has been little indication of interest in intending my workshop, therefor I am going to cancel comming to this get together. I hope that those members that do come have a great time and take the oportunity to learn from the other instructors that are attending.
I will miss the oportunity to meet other WC artists as it would have been wonderful to share the experience with them. I hope that those that do attend have great weather and share their knowledge of painting with the group.

Sadly, I need to announce that Larry and Dianna have cancelled their workshops...therefore the "Gathering" as planned is cancelled.

Please PM me for further details or questions

I think that Pam here deserves a great round of applause from all of us for all of the months of work she put into trying to make this event happen. You are probably not aware that she trekked all over town and the outlying areas carefully checking out, photographing and email us possible suitable locations in which to hold our workshops. Just when she thought she had them all, she headed out to find an even better place or deal. She treked about again putting up posters for the workshops just a few weeks ago when numbers started falling off.

I can't begin to imagine the energy and countless hours she has put in on the computer, telephone and on foot....it had to be a lot. It is hard to see your dream go up in smoke and she hung on working at it as long as she could so I wish to take this opportunity to give her my big thanks, many, many pats on the back and a huge "A++" for effort!!

My thanks Pam

Many, many thanks, Pam!!! You helped me with all my silly questions and pesterings, and I thank you so much for all of your effort for myself as well as all the extra time you put into the whole Gathering! It is such a shame that it has all been called off...it sounded like such great fun!!! However, a freak hail storm, limited funds and outrageous gas prices forced my family to change our plans :( . Thanks a million for your efforts and if we're ever in the neighborhood, you have made me feel like I already know my way around!!!

Yes Pam does deserve thanks from everyone, she has gone far beyond what a lot of members here would have done and has spent countless hours trying to make this event one to remember. It is a shame that time and circumstance have caused the workshop part of this event to have to be called off.
The opportunity to have several professional artists willing take the time out of their busy schedules and, to come to one event to teach workshops for nominal fees is one that many will never encounter again for many years to come..

I hope that those still planning on attending take the time and effort to thank Pam for all the work she did on their behalf in bringing it all together.

That is indeed sad Pam. All the work you put into it and into that very informative site you put together. Here in Belgium on a senior-forum was a thread about the different US States showing beautiful pictures etc. and someone stumbled on your get-together happening in Montana and mailed it to me !!!!!!!
I hope you have nevertheless a super-great time painting and sharing artistic or other thoughts with your friends.

Everyone involved in the gathering deserves a HUGE thanks for all of your work and time you have invested
 Does this mean that the entire thing is not going to happen?
Who says it still can't be a fun and rewarding time?
Is there still going to be things going on?
aren't there local artist who can give lessons? I have seen some awesome paintings posted from the area.
I wish I could have been more definite on coming but in the past few years work has been very up and down for me. If I have little work it reflects in $$$ on payday. With the cost of travel and other expenses I would guess this has been a concern of many wanting to head up north. I wasn't going to discount the idea of heading that way I just can't say for sure I will be going until the last minutes. I still have a desire to get out of town for a few days and what a better place to go this fall.

There are still some people coming to this part of Montana whoi had plane tickets, yes.

We willbe getting together to paint and enjoy each other's company. There willbe no "organized" activity or formal workshops.

I imagine we will still have 10-12 people around.

If you decide to come...please let me know...it's only a short drive!!

Sorry your gathering has lost some of its workshops, Pam, but in my experience you learn as much from "informal workshops" - watching people paint, and you have some very fine painters coming along.

I wish you fine weather and I'd love to be joining you - it's a a wonderful location. I never stop thinking of the mountains since my visit.

Best wishes for your gathering.

Never say die........Well Pam...we are down to the 11th hour and I worked hard at it and got the pastel workshop back on its feet albeit only five participants and only two of them from WC but hey.....it's a go for those that wanted it!! The dates have changed to Monday and Tuesday the 19th and 20th and it will now be held in Kalispell at Northland Hobbies in one of their classrooms. They were kind enought to offer it for free so it makes the small numbers doable. Hours are 9:30 to 4:00.

Unfortunately Kathryn is quite ill and unable to make it. Everyone wish her well. She was really counting on coming down to visit and attend with her daughter but has encouraged Dixie to go have fun without her so we’ll see her there.

I know you’ve changed plans and gotten busy entertaining the other gatherers but I’d like you to know that if you have the time and inclination, you are most welcome to drop in…. and for you lady, its on the house. Even for one day would be fun…..the Monday being the most educational choice.

I’m afraid I won’t make it however for the Friday night get-together. My hubby can’t get off before Friday night so we’ll start out Saturday bright and early, spend the night visiting in Cranbrook and I will be down by myself on the Sunday late afternoon/evening. Hopefully we will get a visit in there somewhere. Perhaps Monday evening. The phone number at Northland is 406 257-1808 if you need to get hold of me during class hours.
