View Full Version : Finishing Medium

I have finished this painting, but wonder if I need to put a layer of some hardening medium to preserve it? Or are acrylic canvases left as is? I'm not really sure how to ask this question.
But I do know that I don't want a shiny look to the finsihed product.

You will need a satin or matt varnish. Do a search on varnish and you will get lots of threads with much useful information. Also visit a manufacturer's website for descriptions of the various types of varnish and the recommended method of application. Golden (http://www.goldenpaints.com/search/search.php?path=&refine=1&template_demo=&result_page=search.php&query_string=varnish&search=Search&limite=10&option=start&site=1%2C) , Liquitex (http://www.liquitex.com/SearchReturn.cfm) .

Yup, varnish. Einion's posts in the past have convinced me to start varnishing my paintings. I also don't like gloss or shine (one of the things I like best about so many acrylic colours) so I use Golden's spray matte varnish.
