Each year...I do a unit with my students...K-12 on cartoons and caricature.

I end up doing demo's in many classes...and then find out later parents of the kids end up having them framed. Hah...!

Thought I'd share here...and let my son have a look see at a convenient place as well...

These are 12"x 18" drawings using a China marker (which is waxy) and finished off with simple student quality watercolors. Total time about four minutes each....

The student body easily recongized each student...and, it was fun. Once you've done a few..you loosen up and get in a groove. Then its like, LOOook OUT!

These are sweet, Larry! One could easily market such a style as finished artwork. IOW - not overdone.

thanks Dave..

they served the purpose of my teaching to look for shapes, for I had them then attempting to draw each other...draw me and a number of teachers. Also a process...from light shapes with a pencil, going over with a China waxy pencil or marker...and then watercolor. At these ages getting them to consider that each stage or step requires care is an effort. It would be like baking a cake from scratch...they want to open all the ingredients and immediate be able to put on the frosting.

Simple toons....but fun. More like a gesture in the sense of pushing yourself to get an immediate read on a person, their look and personality.

You are so mean! How could you do that to another person. Don't you care about their feelings? Their self-esteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeam? Geez what a jerk!

These are very awesome!

thanks Jen....

hey Jason...haha...you know...I did have a number of kids ask me how I could be so mean...? Like the one of the boy with the teeth protruding.

I simply asked...well...without my saying who these cartoons represent, can you tell who they are?

the answer was something like, "yeah...but..."

THen I said...well, they're all in fun. Afterall...I have often drawn myself for the kids, and not always so flattering.

take care...do good on mids...!!! Love ya...
