View Full Version : New Printer Won't Install
11-02-2001, 08:11 AM
I bought the HP 1215 photo printer. The CD photo software installed but the actual printer installation stalls and the computer says "Computer cannot locate the printer". The cable is connected, the plug is in and the printer is turned on. I followed all the directions on the new one and I have uninstalled the old printer and scanner. Still the pc does not recognize the printer.
Before I take the whole shebang over to my repair guy, does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks. Renee http://www.LongIslandFineArt.com

Have you been to HP's web site... Try their help forum... (http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/CategoryHome/1,,221,00.html)

Thank you. I did fill out that form a few days ago but haven't heard yet.
The problem is my old printer was piggy-backed to my scanner. Now the computer says that my scanner is still being accessed by another application. There are so many shared files, etc. that it's not a job for me.
Thank goodness I have a great repair guy. Reasonable and quick. The printer, scanner and tower are all going into repair this Wednesday.
Can't wait to print out my image files with my new printer! Renee http://www.LongIslandFineArt.com

just found your post. I have the same problem with my scanner. How did your repair guy fix it .

I have no idea what he did! In addition to disentangling the printers, I did have him burn all of my images, hundreds of them, onto a CD, so that alone was worth the trip.
You know the computer repair guy on SNL? That's how my guy is. Way above us mere mortals and feels it's all much too complicated to explain it to me! :D
All I know is it cost me about $60. for the installation and the CD and I had my pc back in two days.
So, I am happy again. Although I did just purchase a Sony cybershot50 dig. camera and now guess what needs to be installed over my old camera software? Uhoh!:(

Printers and scannera and such all want to use the same port. The Printer port. When I started adding goodies I got an LPT port hub. It has plugs that let you switch devices, not piggy back.
I recently hired my geek pal to upgrade my whole system and we decided there was no need for a new port added in, we are still using the hub and as long as I remember to switch it, it has been working fine.
