I find sculpture to be my greatest love and medium. Has anyone found a reasonable source for alabaster, marble and soapstone?

Besides the obvious internet search and ordering, alabaster can be obtained from a gypsum mine if there is one near you. Gypsum and alabaster are found together and some people here in Oklahoma refer to alabaster as gyp-rock. One problem with aquiring it this way is that it is usually blasted out instead of cut and may be fractured. If you can't find any rock suppliers searching the internet, I can tell you some but I've never ordered rock from them.

Well I have searched the internet and the sources I have found are some I already know and they are costly.. One is in Florida,Montoya. And Sculpture house in NY..I have bought from both and the prices are rather high on alabaster starting at 1.30 a pound.. So any suggestions are welcome.

Don't forget you can also get soapstone (and possibly other kinds of carving stone) from Dick Blick... might as well give them our support, since they're such a good sponsor for WetCanvas!
