My first ever attempt at painting a tiger (or any sort of cat!). I painted it as a Father's Day card for my Dad (so if you see this Mum, don't show him it!!!).

Carly - the size it shows up on the screen is about the same as it is IRL. I painted it on a watercolour greeting card. I do like it myself though, so may well have a go at doing a bigger version to frame.

The fur was done firstly with a light wet-in-wet wash of the base colours, then when that was dry I went over the top with one of those scrubby bristle brushes that kids use for poster painting, I dabbed it roughly into the paint, splaying out the ends, then used light strokes so that it painted several 'hairs' at once.

Thanks for your kind comments!

Lynda

Great piece and I agree with Amelia...super composition. You must have a cat because you have captured the eyes to perfection. Thank you for your explaination of the 'fur' technique. You must do this one on a larger sheet. Mary

Lynda this is great. I really like the different colours in his eye.
I think I'll do my Dad a card for Fathers day!

Now... just out of curiosity, did you have some special reason to choose a tiger for your father? ;-)
