View Full Version : Waterlily on paper

This is the first stage on a painting of a waterlily I wanted to try on Cartiera paper. So far I love it. I am used to painting on board so I like how the paper holds the paint without the lines left when you paint on canvas. The paper buckles a bit when wet but dries flat as long as it is held down by masking tape on the edges. I have included the reference photo. Comments are always welcome. Pam

Looking good so far. Paper is my favourite support to paint on.

The reflection on the water in the ref. pic is quite dreamy, almost odd looking.
This looks good so far. Am curious to see the finished piece.

Beautiful!! I love it. The water is incredible.

I have never heard of Cardiera paper. I haven't painted on anything but framed canvas, art board and loose canvas (canvas placemats) which turned out pretty good. (I am working on getting my work on line so you can tell me what I need to know)

Looking v. good so far. I find paper very sympathetic - much more so than canvas and board, tho' I also use those.........did you stretch it first to prevent the buckling? I'm not familiar with the brand you're using, so perhaps you could give some info on its properties....e.g., does it need priming or is it ready-primed?
Love the reference - beautiful! :D

It looks like you are right on track in your piece with the reference piece. This is really lovely.

I tried working on this last night but everything seemed to go wrong. I quit while I was ahead. So... excuse the mistakes, I'll fix them today. Pam :(

Nothing too problematic that I can see Pam but you're right to stop and take a breather if you're not happy. This is sure to be a winner if you take your time as you're on the right track so far. You've gots some lovely light and shades going on and I shall be waiting to see how you tackle the water and reflection.
Great work so far - good luck with the rest :wink2:
