View Full Version : Where can I get black enameled chain?

I have been looking for quite a while now for black enameled cable chain (or any type of chain of this sort) and was not successful. I wondered if you knew of a source for black enameled chain/wire that is accessible to me from Germany.

Personally, I have never heard of such a product. Would dipping regular chain in acrylic paint work? Primer on it first? Just a thought!

I found this with a quick froogle search

The model train site has many sizes and lengths of black chain.

I forgot: you can heat sterling silver to glowing hot over a gas stove (or torch, but I don't have one) without any flux, and when it cools it will be a dark gunmetal color. Not black, but definitely not shiney.

Thanks for the links ... will see if that peanut chain from the model train supplier is what I need.

Enamel is more than black paint. It is the only thing on metal that will stand the strain on the chain and stay black...besides giving it a wonderfully vintage look and feel :wink2: I would have taken blackened chain as well, but besides gunmetal plate I don't seem to be able to put my hands on anything - and it is a pain to work with that plated chain: I loose many links due to the plate popping off when I open them.

I did find some chain I could have used on eBay ... but the seller stubbornly refuses to ship to Germany :(

Oh well. Thanks for the links again :)

Hi, Wouldn't Silver Black work? I guess though it wouldn't give a shiny finish.
Hope this helps...did you ever check out Thunderbird for the sulphar?

I have some vintage jewelry from Austria with a "Japanned" finish (black). You might check any suppliers in Austria for black chain.
