As some of you know I have been experimenting in Student Brand Coloured Pencils(Prismacolour Scholar)for a couple months. I bought a few Artist`s Quality (Prismacolours), but I don`t notice a major difference between the student vs artist`s quality. What are the main differences between the two?? :o

I think usually the difference between artist and student quality would be light fastness. I didn't even know Prismacolor made a student's grade - are they much cheaper than the artists ones? Where I am they are about $1.50 a pencil.

lightfastness would be one consideration...but another is the student grade pencils have more wax in them...pigment is expensive...wax isn't, so they use more of the binder and less pigment...

what this means to he artist is, it's harder to get the deep rich colors.

And more prone to wax-bloom too. If you want to preserve a particular work, be sure to hit it with a few coats of spray fixative
