Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can give me a few tips on how to get the texture of denim using either acrylic or oil paint. Let me describe my painting-to-be in detail if it helps:

I want to paint my jewellery all heaped up together, so it's going to be quite a colourful painting. I want to use blue denim for the background so that only bits and pieces of the material will be seen.

Does anyone think it will work if I use primed canvas instead of cardboard and just do a transparent blue wash over it?

Oh yeah, I nearly forgot. To obtain the less smooth textures of some of the jewellery, I was thinking of applying modelling paste, but I'm not sure how that would affect the denim. So should I use modelling paste or not?

I would be grateful if anyone could help me with these questions, or direct me to a thread that covers this topic as I cannot seem to find it myself. Thanks :) !!!
