One of TeAnne's postings alerted me to the existence of a project page entitled "Dramatic Skies" so I decided to post my painting. I am official now I guess *grin*... I posted my first project entry http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif) I just finished this one last week. It is my third watercolour and I was trying to play with the paint in the water for the sky. It is from a picture I took down in Australia. I need a lot more fine tuning yet but I am coming along *smile* I can post the picture I used if anyone would like to see it. Thanks for looking http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thank you Leaflin, Amelia and May for your nice comments. I really liked how threatening it looked. As I recall, it did rain cats and dogs!

Your colours are so fresh and clear. Did you mix the sky on the paper or glaze over the blue with grey. Very eyecatching! Mary

Thank you, Mary http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif I made the sky very wet and then used Payne's grey and some Indanthrene blue and then a touch of Winsor blue.. then when it was dry put a bit of violet down the right side. It sure teaches you to work the paint and then, when IT (the paint) has chosen where it is going to go, you learn to work it from there into what you are trying to achieve. Thanks again

Thank you Lise, Rosanna and Fay :) Sorry for taking so long to answer :( You are right Fay, it is hard to know when to stop. I guess when you start asking yourself if you should stop then that is when you should :)

Hi Gerri... This sky is really done wonderfully! Playing with your colors like that is just great, and results like this painting are so encouraging to others...especially those just starting out with watercolors. Keep up the good work and let us see more eh? http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif Carol

That is very nice of you to say, Carol. I just finished a painting of a still life which was done at the last watercolour class I was attending and it has got to be the worst picture I have ever painted in my life. It was one of those pictures that make you want to pack up your paints http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/frown.gif I would post it but it is soooooo bad! I need the encouragement so thank you again.

Great work, if the ground was a bit darker in places it would give it even more atmosphere. http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif

A very dramatic sky, wet into wet is exciting.
I agree a few dark ground shadows would add even more drama.
Thanks for submitting to the Skies project,
Rod.

Thanks Taghera and Rod. I am not sure where or how to put in ground shadows.
