Here are a few of the (breath-taking) views that Mike and I experienced last week on our New Hampshire hiking extravaganza. I just finished these up today. I'm not really completely happy with the last one of the cairn ~ I think it's gotten a bit muddled. Maybe someone can suggest something?

These are all photoshopped:

How could anyone not find the natural world inspiring?

Oh these are so nice, Cyndi. My favorite has to be the bridge. You are right about the inspiration of nature in all it's wonder. God is the ultimate artist:)

That's my favorite too Charissa. I'm not sure that it's possible to really capture the views from the top of a mountain. You lose the depth and height, and everything! Same with the Grand Canyon. Maybe I'll have to post an inquiry over on the Photography forum asking for tips on capturing those three dimensional vistas :)

My honest reaction here this morning opening these up was just..."Wow!"

I could immediately see myself setting up my portable easel at each place to paint!

Marvelous....captivating.

NOW I know why I don't paint, Larry! (Besides the fact that I stink at it, that is.) It's because it is so much easier to tote a camera up the mountain than it is to carry all the painting equipment! :D

I really do wish I had more of a feel for painting...ah well, I'm very much enjoying smooshing pixels around instead. Less messy than paint, but then, also less tactile!

That's a beauty, Jaydub! Reminds me a bit of some of the vistas in western New York, along rolling highways with nothing but cornfields and farms...

Here are a couple more from New Hampshire...don't want to make you cry, but hey!

Gee, those turned out awfully small. Here are some slightly larger versions. The second one is from a different mountain ~ Mt Monadnock, which we climbed on Labor Day ~ but it's still a nice big hunk of granite!

Those make me SO homesick. I grew up there and recognize each place. Beautiful pictures.

I just love the mountains Kim, but there is a lot of beauty in Texas too! What type of art do you do? Anything that taps into the Texas landscape?

:)

I am actually back in the mountains again, but west TX ones. Yes, I paint landscapes as well as portraits. There are plenty of NH landscapes on my website as well. Do you live in NH Cindi?

No, I'm in Massachusetts, but pretty close to the NH border. We jump on up there just about every chance we get to do some rock hopping. Massachusetts' Berkshire Mts are really nice too, but they're actually a bit further to get to, so we know sections of NH much better. Mike (my DH) and I both grew up in central PA, spending lots of time in the Mts, so we just seem to gravitate towards them. :)

I'll see if I can get a few more shots from the Whites finished up for you!

Cyndi,
Looking at your pictures this morning made me think of home where I grew up...South Central Alaska....hope you don't mind but Iv'e uploaded a couple of pictures near wher I lived once. I guess you could say I grew up in the shadow of the mountains. Now I live in Sunny Florida....a place I love for completely different reasons :D My wife and I both were looking at your photos and agree they are very inspiring.....something we could just sit, sip our coffee, and look at for a long while :D Hope you will show us more in the future.

How could I possibly mind, Roger? Please feel free to share that kind of natural beauty anytime and anywhere you wish :D

Alaska is definitely on my list of must-see places. The starkness and contrast and grandeur are just breath-taking in pictures...I can't imagine what it must feel like to stand there and see the mountains in person!

Thanks very much for posting!

Bad Cyndi! Bad Roger! LOL You're making me want to throw my hands up in resignation with whatever it is the rest of the world is doing and just sit down and draw!! Oh My God, these pictures are GO'GEOUS!! I especially love the colors in the first rock picture, the carvings in the last, and the mist covered landscape that finished off the thread has me weak in the knees. Do I have y'alls permission to try them out someday?

Aisling

OK, why isn't the image thingy working? <sigh>

Thanks for starting this thread Cyndi. Definitely inspiring... some most beautiful spots have been shown. Here's one I chanced upon during a family hike in the Blue Ridge mountains in North Carolina. Such a tranquil spot.

Tranquil for sure! That's a beautiful spot, Bernie.

Here's the pathway that I just finished working on. It's the hike up to Artist's Bluff in the White Mountains. Tranquil, not!

WOW... I'd turn an ankle for sure. I bet it's tranquil at the top though... not too many people willing to hike that trail. :D

Not so much tranquil as scary!

Inspiring!
Can just feel that mountain air.
Just imagine those scenes in a couple of weeks. I live in the northern appilacian moutains and really look forward to fall for the color. (The only problem is, winter follows!)

True Judi, but then you get...snow! Lots of beautiful interesting pictures to be taken (painted, quilted, whatever...) and also lots of indoor time for me to actually tamper with some of my raw shots that I took in the summer :)
