After I picked myself up off the floor and started the weekly drawing thread, I had to take a break from all that perspective and try something soft and curvy. LOL

I wandered over to the Figure forum and decided to try one of the offerings in the September Figure Challenge. I've been concentrating on portraits and animals, feet, and dragonflies, ( :p ) I thought I could use the practice drawing a human body.

Here's my go at it:

C&Cs welcome. :)

Wow, that was quick and really well done. I don't even have Aug. done yet. I really want to do this one as well but will have to see how the time goes. I've got it downloaded so we'll see.

Hey, thanks everyone! :)

Lee, thanks for having a look. This was fun and really something different for me. :)

Thank you for the clappies, Dee! LOL She's not exactly like the reference, but I was happy to at least, get the basic pose and lighting down. :) I'm not really happy with the feet - they were HARD! LOL I may play around with it more. :)

Al, this was a pretty quick drawing - an hour or so. I just thought the woman in this reference was beautiful. One of these days, I'm going to try the lady with the grapes too. :)

Thank you very much, Bill. :)

Lori, thanks. :) Like I mentioned to Al, this was a pretty quick drawing. I've found that since I've gotten back to drawing, there's tons of time for it... you just have to neglect EVERYTHING else you ever used to do - like cooking, laundry, and housework! LOL

Thanks again, all, for taking a look and commenting. :)

Good to see you revived! :D Very well done! Nice darks and lights! I like how the edge of her back kind of gets lost there in the light. I got to have a look at the reference, what a pose..lol!

Thanks Stoy, she's a saucy looking thing, isn't she?? LOL

I noticed, this morning, that I'd left off her right buttock!! LOL That's what I get for drawing in bad light - I couldn't see it last night. You'll be happy to know I've added it. LOL I'll post an update, complete with the right buttock, when I get home from work. :p

Paula, this is great! I love the simplicity of your shading and the way your line flows through her whole figure. So very nice! Perspective?. . .check the bottom ellipse of the vase...it would be a bit more affected by perspective . . . :D Oh and I like your recipe for success--->neglect housework etc. . .

That was my immediate thought too...so I checked...and Paula has it 100% right! The photo was taken at eye-level to the vase!

I had a look and more like thighs of steel! :D Ok, now it makes sense visually, something seemed a-miss or rather thinned out?, but the drawing was well done enough to make it actually appear to work!..I was duped :p Your fix really does the trick, though...nice work!!

Thank you Cindy and Bon! :)

Cindy - Perspective, schmerspective!! LOLOL I'm having a nervous breakdown with it in the weekly drawing thread!! LOL Actually, I thought like you, that there must be some curve at the base of that vase when I was drawing it, but like Dee mentioned, it's straight! Thank goodness. LOL

Bon - Thank you. :) There was more shading to this reference than first appeared. I saw your drawing, by the way - Beautiful! :)

Stoy, yes, you could say something was "amissING!" LOLOL Now she's in no danger of tipping over. :p

lol Paula. Breath deeply. . . the whole perspective schmerspective will be over at the end of the week. LOL And good on you for the change. When I was growing up, my Mom would always get after us kids for doing things half-a**ed. Phewf. . . all fixed.

Celia, she was a pleasure to draw - all curvy and soft. :) A very good break from angles and perspectives! LOL Thank you again.

I'm thinking I'm going to try and keep up on the figure challenges too - They're excellent practice. :)
